Is it switching off or resetting? Could try using Speedfan to log your temps and PSU voltages, when it does reset or turn off, go take a look at the log and see if anything is amiss.
Switching off.
What log - where is it found?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. In latter part of career specialising in commercial - mostly business sales.0 -
Did you thoroughly clean the muck out between the fins of the CPU heatsink? There is an interesting video here showing what happens with insufficient cooling but it also shows the fins on various different types of heatsinks.
Interesting video.
My wife has said my PC sounds quieter than it has been doing in recent weeks. Perhaps my last clean was more of a deep clean than previously?A retired senior partner, in own agency, with 40 years experience in property sales & new build. Not without a sense of irony, the PC industry, PC being home-type computer, is driven by Joe Public's wish list, practical use notwithstanding here, how many people out their with machines powerful enough to be used as high-end CAD drawing office machines actually utilise and harness the power of the computer? Not many albeit, my personal point of view towards "hardware" is that as long as the machine does what you expect it to do then until it has outgrown your requirements it remains a useful tool....far from obsolete, as consumers we need to slow down and understand how to use what we already have to its full capability. Computers are not really a fashion accessory now are they?In PC terms, a computer is classed as obsolete after 18 months - but they rarely are.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0 -
Hi,
Does anybody know of an utility that will show/record fan speeds and temperatures?

Download Speedfan. Install it, fire it up and click on Configure. Enable the checkbox under the Log tab. Also enable logging under the Voltages tab. When you want to view the log, go to the directory where you installed Speedfan and there will be a .CSV file beginning with SFlog.
Speedfan will give you a reading of your temps and voltages and these will be recorded to the log. Next time your PC screws up, go back and have a look at the log, see how the temps were faring and how much the voltages were fluctuating. Google for any more info on voltages and which levels may be causing problems.0 -
Subject: SpeedFan use.
It is not always obvious which temperature of the many temperature sensors that are detected is connected to the main processor. I find that Prime95 is a useful utility in identifying key temperature sensors. This program can thrash the processor and rapidly build up CPU temperature with a built in torture test.

Sisoft Sandra is a very useful set of tools that is free to try, there will be a cpu temp reader as part of sandra that you can keep checking as you are starting up cpu intensive programs etc. There is also a total system check that it can perform to give you a report on what other problems there may be. You can obtain it from www.download.comNorn Iron Club member No 3530
