Hello
My daughters laptop keeps switching itself off.It will run for about 10-15 minutes and then off it goes.I had installed adaware se and spyware blaster before she went to uni and she has come back for the christmas break with both programmes uninstalled.
I have tried to run xoftspy through it will not stay on long enough to complete the scan. She has since told me that it does it all the time.
Is there anything I can do or is it ready for the laptop graveyard. It is a compaq presario 2500.
Thanks

Try removing the battery from the laptop and just using it with the mains charger plugged in.
Also if you are using windows xp/2000 are there any errors in the event log (event viewer)0 -

My pc did the same thing constantly. I ended up reformatting the hard drive after trying lots of things. I then did a complete reinstall. I think I had a conflict in the pc and nothing else would put it right. I even got to the point of thinking about ditching the pc. I eventually realised that it didn`t switch off in safe mode and came to the conclusion that I had a conflict somewhere. Maybe try uninstalling several things and reloading one at a time before you, perhaps, decide to reformat
It can be done but be sure to save everything you will ever need onto an external hard drive and then load one thing at a time and note all your e mail addresses because everything gets wiped. It was worth it because my pc is now stable and like new and has been stable for 4 months0 -
My laptop had a similar problem last year, although there was no set time for it to switch off.
I took it to a shop, who found out it was overheating because of the stuff used to stick the fan on???? anyway, they fixed it,and there have been no problems until very recently, where is has started to happen again.
Another trip to get it fixed if it starts to happen more often.
So,it could be overheating.Sponsored by Tesco Clubcard Points !!0
