I used to leave mine on 24/7 but for the past year I put it into standby when not in use. Saved me a fortune in electricity as it's controlling an Intellipanel so when idle goes down to 6 watts instead of 200 (as the panel switches off everything else like printers/speakers etc). My electricity usage is around 1/3 less now - it really has made that much difference!0

The four Macs in our house are never switched off but "sleep" when not in use. This allows them to do their own "housekeeping" at night, so they are relatively trouble-free. (Why four? Well, I use one for business, one for recording TV programmes; my wife has her own for Internet use and so does my son. They were all bought second-hand so they didn't cost much.)0
