You don't make clear just how "many, many times" you "have used this thread" but it only began yesterday and has some fifteen postings.

I concur with the point you make about the importance of not deterring new members from posting and I observe it: I wouldn't have made my comment to an initiate. This OP, on the other hand, has been a member for over two years and has made well over four hundred previous postings.

What you actually read "somewhere on this site" was the triumph of illiteracy over idiocy that appears on this very page (and on every other) and is expressed with the words "Pls be nice to all MoneySavers. There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps." (sic).

I don't "disagree courtesy helps". Few do.

And if ever there was a testimony to just how stupid some questions can be, it is to be found in this forum.

Fortunately, however, there are also some highly intelligent and extremely kind members of this forum :A and we all gain a very great deal from - and are outstandingly grateful for - them sharing their wisdom and tips with us.

    :)

Does that mean that all OP 400 posts are in the tech forum?
Hopefully when I grow up I will be as tolerant and as perfect as you---and I am 64 tomorrow -- if, in case, you would like to wish me 'happy birthday!:D

Having accused another poster of not being able to spell "one" - perhaps you should check your punctuation !

Now now ladies, put the handbags away :naughty:
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.

No worries, Pro; I know how to deal with flying handbags. Here goes... :D

    John Gray,

    Herewith the tutorial you seek.

Use common sense and apply it to each device upon the basis of what's practical and what isn't.

Remote (radio) controlled sockets are handy for switching six-gangs of plugs located under or behind desks, or in other inconvenient places (even the loft or other rooms).

Chargers and power supply units consume power even when they're not charging or are connected to a device that's switched off.

Leaving a laptop permanently connected to a powered charger wrecks its battery as well as wasting energy. Switching off the power supply to the charger makes the battery do some work, and that keeps the battery healthy.

    Atro1,
You need to keep working on the "perfect" front but many happy returns for tomorrow. :bdaycake:
(You'd probably be surprised to know my age. )

    Moonrakerz,

It was precisely the mispunctuation in the quote that I was pointing out, you twit.

    LeoSayer39,

Find the other 38 and you could start a choir. :)

Don't laugh at banana republics. :rotfl:

As a result of how you voted in the last three General Elections,
you'd now be better off living in one.

    Leopard = !!!!!!.

My home PC/Screen/Router/Printer costs, on average, about 1.5p per hour to run.
So, left on permanently it would cost about £131 per year.
For this reason, I switch it off for about 12 hours overnight, saving about £65 per year.
