My orchid dialler is set to dial, 0845 Peak. (dialaround) 0844 462 68 68
not used it before and checked with the dial around web site and the number has been changed to 'united kingdom [0845 rate] (land/wireless) 0844 462 91 91'
Was on hold to an 0845 number using dial around for 5 mins and thought id check the charges per minute for the 0844 462 68 68 number but i cant find any info..
anyone know the charges for the old 0844 462 68 68 number ?
Also i am with just dial saver plan, is there any charge to dial an 0844 dialaround number or do i just pay dial around the 2p per minute for a peak 0845 number and no charge from just dial ?
thanks

You don't pay DialAround anything, you pay whoever is carrying your call to the 0844 number.Jon_S wrote:My orchid dialler is set to dial, 0845 Peak. (dialaround) 0844 462 68 68

I don't know what JustDial charge for such calls but, if you had 1280'd back onto BT, the charges would have been 2p/minute for either number - as shown on their Specialist Numbers Price List.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Remember that any 08xx dial-throught provider charges from the point the initial number answers and asks you to input your destination number. So if you get busy tone or no answer you still pay, as you do when ringing the destination number.
So if many of your calls will not answer/engaged, then it might not be saving you as much as you think.
However, if the destination is an 0845 number, then I think that it's fairly certain that the number will answer, possibly with a recording/menu, so you won't be wasting too much.0 -
Both numbers are charged at 2p amin from a BT Landline, and both offer calls to 0845.
As it is not clear what JDS charge to call 0844 numbers,(Their sister company OneTel charges 10% more then BT) use the 1280 override and place your calls via BT.PF.0 -
Ive just logged into my just dial account and they do charge for dialling 0844 numbers, they have charged me 1.80p per minute to call dialaround which charge 2p per min to 0845 numbers which i have my orchid dialler programmed to route at peak times only.
So ive paid 3.80p per minute for an 0845 number which BT would have charged me 3p per minute.
I set up my orchid dialler using the following table taken from this site:
01/02 Geographic off peak -'just-dial Saver Lite' (CPS)
01/02 Geographic numbers peak. 1899.
Landline to mobile. 18185
0844/0871 BT at all times (1280 to bypass CPS).
0845 Peak. (dialaround) 0844 462 68 68
0870 Peak 18185
0845/0870 Evenings and Weekends BT (1280 to bypass CPS).
Directory Enquiries 0800 0192 190 (when dialing 118 XXX or 192)
international landline and mobile 1899
So do i need to amend the entry for 0845 peak number to (1280 to bypass cps, then 0844 462 68 68 for dial around ?
this is getting confusing !0 -

Yes they do charge to call 0844 numbers but it wasnt clear how much. Sounds like they charge the same as OneTel who owned JDS to call this particular 0844 access number 2.1p a minute. So all you have done is pay 2.1p a minute to dial the number (or 1.80p plus vat in this particular example) to JDS. You have not paid anything or will pay anything to Dialaround, the call is billed by the network you send it over. So you are only paying 2.1p a minute to call 0845 numbers through Dialaround via JDs.PF.0 -
Assuming that to be correct (which it isn't), just how are DialAround going to get their money from you?Jon_S wrote:Ive just logged into my just dial account and they do charge for dialling 0844 numbers, they have charged me 1.80p per minute to call dialaround which charge 2p per min to 0845 numbers which i have my orchid dialler programmed to route at peak times only.

You paid JustDial (and ONLY JustDial) 1.8p/minute + VAT = 2.1p/minute for that call.
So it is confirmed, JD charge more than BT for such calls (2.1p/minute instead of 2p/minute in the case of DialAround's 0844 462 68 68 number).
Prefix those 0844 numbers with 1280 in future ..................Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Im still confused, are you saying that im only charged for the call to 0844 by 'justdial' and no charge from 'dialaround' for the onward call to an 0845 number ?0

Yes thats how these dial through numbers work.PF.0

Thanks Heinz it appears that JDS charge the same as OneTel to dial 0844 eg BT rate plus 10%. I have amended my post no 7.(My maths not good today.LOL)PF.0
