selling a contract mobile - please help????

Hi
I have an orange mobile that came with my new contract sim. I want to sell the phone on ebay.
My friend ( not a particularly good source) told me that if i sell it without putting the sim in that came with the phone and registering it for a couple of days , I will be charged for the cost of the phone.
Can anyone tell me if this is true as I would much rather sell the phone as factory sealed .

I have sold several new phones on ebay without the sim, never turned them on and never been charged.

If you check the wording of your contact you will find that the handset is yours from day one and does not form part of the contract. You are free to do whatever you wish with the handset. Your only obligation is to ensure that you pay your monthly line rental for the period you agreed to.

I have sold several Orange 'contract' handsets in unopened boxes.
