can i work as a mortgage advisor if i go bankrupt?

The answer to the original question is actually yes you can.
Its not simple, but the fit and proper rules do not forbid brokers from practicing with defaluts / CCJs / Bankruptcy (discharged - current I think is a no no).
The issue will be if you go DA / AR / RI.
Some networks would not allow it, some would and there is less likely to be an issue if you go the RI route, as it is not your name on the register. The importance is to be honest on the application. A pre-applicaiton discussion with the FSA / network would be the first thing to do.
Just because someone has had financial difficulty does not mean they are not able to provide good advice when it comes to mortgages and protection.0 -
Personally I would not be keen to talk to a Dr about saving my arm, who himself was missing an arm, however it happened.
As for giving financial advice, the person I want to help me deal with my next mortgage ideally wouldn't have one at all because they will have paid theirs off with their financial knowhow.
This is the biggest purchase anybody ever makes and I don't care whether you were made bankrupt through mistakes, illness whatever, if you were savy enough to be trusted to instruct others on their financial future it just should not have happened to you.
There's a reason why bankrupts aren't able to be solicitors, in the army, police etc. You've proven yourselves to be untrustworthy.
ROFL you are funny......with what we earn you are more likely to get ripped off by a broker who has paid off thier mortgage (unless they are close to retirement age) because it probably means they charge everyone a 3% fee.
Do you not realise that mortgage broking is not a lucrative business? We dont magic money out of nowhere you know.0 -
NO most of the country is not in financial difficult a !!!!less few are.
You can take out insurance with every debt you agree to and that is what anyone with half a brain does, thinks ahead and plans for every eventuality.
GirlyGirl can I respectfully remind you of Martin's post at the head of the DFW board.
<STRONG>"Dear MoneySavers....
Debt Free Wannabee is one of my favourite boards on this site. It's also one which runs a delicate balance. Many people who have serious debts have hidden them for a time, been scared to confront them, suffered depression or have even had suicidal thoughts because of them.
While elsewhere on the site robust discussion is welcomed, in Debt Free Wannabee may I just caution MoneySavers to err on the side of kindness. Of course many are in debt due to over-spending, financial illiteracy, or mismanagement of money (and some through no fault, only due to circumstance). Yet the fact they are here means they're looking for help, guidance and to take charge of their finances - and that in itself is admirable
Please use your knowledge and kindness to help rather than to berate. This board often has the power to move me to tears with the sheer power of the community that's grown and I hope it will continue.
If you feel it’s important to point something out that the poster may find negative but needs to understand, then it's not a problem, but do think carefully about your phrasing - people can be very sensitive and nuances may mislead when it’s in an online Forum.</SPAN>DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

There is also plenty of discussion on this board - with templates from Martin - on stopping and reclaiming completely worthless credit card insurances. So actually anyone with half a brain is now stopping their PPI!!DMP Mutual Support Thread member 244

With respect who do you think will take your advice if they know you've not been able to manage your own finances - and with bankruptsy it's printed in your local paper.
Really do you think financial services is going to be recruiting any time soon ?
Have you been living on planet earth for the past 6 months ?
Well, I'm studying to be an accountant whilst working in a well paying job, but if I lose my job, then I'll probably be faced with bankruptcy at some point as I have a mortage. Then I'm screwed.
I think you are very rude. Such circustances could happen to ANYONE, you included.

!!!!!!? People like you make me so mad. You are so rude it's unbelieveable.
So you are saying that you don't care if someone was diagnosed with cancer and couldn't work for 2 years due to illness, if they were bankrupt because of such circustances you would say that they are untrustworthy?

Actually, where have you been the past 6 months yourself? The whole country - no, the whole world is in an economic crisis. The shops are having sales in November, the most profitable time of year usually for them!
Half a brain - well, that person would be dead, you can't live on half a brain.
Actually, insurance is a big rip-off.0 -
I'm not feeling as generous as the rest of you - I DO hope Girlygirl gets into financial difficulty but if she comes back to this board for help she'd better change her name because I for one don't think her worthy of my experience!
If you put her on your ignore list, all her posts will be hidden from you and she can't upset you!

I've read some of Girly's other threads, I may be wrong but she strikes me as one of those people with 3 flats in Chelsea and a trust fund an a husband that is a CEO of some company, otherwise she would understand how easy it is to lose everything.0
