Son was assaulted - criminal injuries refused and appeal delayed

Dear money saving friends
I hope you can advise me
My son was seriously assaulted in October 2006 after he had been at University in Leeds for only three weeks. He and a friend were in a bar at 11.30-ish on a Friday night - they were not drunk (all records confirm this). A man approached my son C and broke a glass in his face - his eyelid was left hanging and he had to have approx 50 internal and external stitches to his eyelid. Despite this being in a croweded bar noone was apprehended.
The officer dealing with my son's case went on leave for a fortnight on the Monday and the case was not passed to anyone else. After some time and constant communication from us to the police my son eventually received a letter from the police, 12 weeks later, asking why he had not attended to view photographs as requested. He had never received this request.
C duly applied for compensation (early 2007) and it was turned down (Jan 2008)as he apparently had not assisted the police.
He has appealed (March 2008) but has not heard anything. Our MP has written to CICA and has been told of a backlog. C has telephoned and been promised a call back "within the week" several times.
We are lost and stuck. What can we do?

Isn't there a procedure for logging an official complaint against the handling of your sons case/assault?

Victim Support can help with compensation claims. Also I would certainly complain about the police's handling of this case.
So sorry for your son and you.

Thanks everyone.
Our MP is involved but even he keeps drawing a blank.
I'm just wondering whether there is an ombudsman service I could use - does anyone know?0 -

Yes there is - it's called the Police Complaints Authority. Info on how to make a complaint to them here http://www.ipcc.gov.uk/index/complaints/who_complaint.htm.................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

I did tell you at the time it's not that easy
I take it they haven't killed the dog yet either then? Have they removed it from him and placed it in kennels or anything until the judge passes the order to destroy it? DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Strange how varied the payouts are.
My mate was assaulted in a takeaway after a night out - he was attacked by two lads, which resulted in some superficial cuts & bruises but also a small fracture of the eye socket.
He was awarded nearly £3000 by CICA.WARNING!Alcohol can make you think you are more interesting and attractive than you actually are.....0
