hi,
I posted over on the I wanna/do it board and got no response ....
I have decided I need a new printer as the one I have is knackered and I am having to do loads more printing than I thought I would (free of freecycle).
I am looking to spend around £50-£60 and I would like to be able to print photo's - I'm not too bothered about it being a conbi.
The research Ive done and I cant seem to find a decent one within my price range -
The ones Ive looked at are ...
IP3500 - I'm a bit wary about cost of running as ink carteridges could work out expensive, ink seems to be around £10 for Canon ones but conpats can be a prob??
Epson SX200 - I dont need to scanner etc and these are some bad reviews of it not accepting compatible ink.
DX8400 - apparently very expensive on ink and wont allow you to stretch the ink to last - it just refuses to do any more.I still dont need the conbi bit but it seems you cant forgo these and get a better quality printer??
Epson D120 - very expensive on ink apparently ...
Epson DX4450 - some quite bad reviews again re ink efficiency/price of inks
Does anyone have any suggestions of others? or comments about the above?
Jenny

Canon Pixma or Epson DX range0

The canon cartridges are very easy to refill - cli-8 and the black - you will lose the ink level monitering function but so what.
I have ip5300 and have been refilling the original cartridges for over a year now- its great not to have to worry about the cost of an A4 photo , which only takes a minute!0 -
If you're going to be using it exclusively for printing photos, I wouldn't bother buying one. It's cheaper to use an online photo printing service.0

hi,
No, I am in my final year a uni and using the university library printer is getting far too expensive and time consuming. I want to be able to use it to do photos though and make sure its something which I will be able "to grow into with time."
I think its definitely going to be an epson or canon pixma ... and recomendations on the exact one I should go with though. I need to stay within my budget of around £50-£60 :EasterBun )I just wanted to use this icon!!)

I've sold a few DX4450's. They're more than happy with the latest compatible ink carts - Epson rewrote the software in the printer to reject the older spec carts, but this has been overcome. Compatible inks are about a quid a cart on Ebay in packs of 12/16+0

I had the Epson SX405 from Amazon, bit over your budget (£68) but takes compatible carts and is wireless too which was good for me.
Good printer, would recommend.0 -
Hi
I have been looking for a new printer as well. In fact I'm going crosseyed looking at sites. I ended up just keeping my eye on Amazon, Currys and Pc world. I even looked on Epson home page. Seen a load I like, read all the reviews good and bad. Which didn,t help as some would say briliant other would say never buy it. I've decided to wait till after Xmas and maybe the sites will settle a bit and stop going on about great xmas deals.:rolleyes:0 -
I have a new Epson SX405 and have bought a load of Jet Tec ink cartridges for it. I successfully replaced the original black one with no probs. However just done the same with cyan and now getting the message "Cannot recognise ink cartridge" Have spent hours trying to find out more info on this - obviously it will work with non Epson cartridges or Jet Tec wouldn't make them! Help - I got loads of urgent stuff to do with no printer. Many thanks in advance to whoever out there can help me:beer:something missing0

If you're printing huge volumes of B&W, you might want to consider getting a laser. Inkjets for text are rubbish and expensive. At the very least, get one with separate black and colour cartriges, otherwise you'll be throwing away a lot of perfectly good coloujr ink. Out of intrest, how much do they charge for the library printer?Ubuntu is an ancient African word, meaning: 'I can't configure Debian'.0

@ Clairev....
Where did you buy your carts from?
I had the same problem, Cyan was "not recognised" so contacted seller... he advised various things which didn't work so I sent it back and he replaced it....
New one came, worked fine but now Magenta was "not recognised" so contacted seller, sent replacement...
That came worked fine but now Yello doesn't work.... replaced that one too and all been fine since.
To be fair to the seller he replaced them all quickly and first time he asked me to send the faulty one back but 2nd and 3rd cart he didn't even ask for that...
Contact whoever sold them to you.0
