Maclaren Twin Traveller- Any advice?

Thinking of purchasing a Maclaren twin traveller.

Have a boy who will be 1 when the new 1 comes along.

Anybody got any advice or experience of this twin ??

Also I have found it for sale for £159.99 with footmuffs rain cover etc. Anyone find a better price on this model?

Any other recommendations will be appreciated as we dont want 2 regret our purchase.

Thanks xxx

  • I have a single Maclaren and it is fantastic I don't regret it for a second.

I bought the Techno XT and I think the twin traveller has the same type of wheels. Look closely as friends who have had the type with the standard wheels have all ended up cursing them! The wheels to look out for are with the spikes not the covered ones

A fold up umbrella buggy is a godsend and I think the Maclaren doubles seem to be thinner than the other makes so good for going into shops and down aisles.

Do also think about investing in a buggy board for your single pushchair, my 18 month old was into walking at this age, so you might want to consider that for later on.

    Good luck

Hi, I've had loads of doubles and am also a frequent buggy tester for Tamba, the multiple birth charity. Please don't buy the maclaren, i love their single buggies but the doubles are nowhere near as good, they are also rather wide compared to other models, and surprisingly heavy!

For children of different ages and if you want a compact fold i'd recommend the combi we2, it is excellent, lovely to push, has handy storage on the handlebars (which is bar style so more comfy to push with two in than a handle style) the bumper bar is fabulous, with little snack cups / cup holders built in which are a real boon for toddlers and the seats are very padded and comfy. customer service from combi is excellent from what i've heard compared with many nightmare scenarios with maclaren, including my own, i know of at least 5 people who have had parts of maclaren buggies break (my own had part of the frame shear apart on the third use!) and it is NEVER maclarens fault, EVER!

other great models are jane powertwin which is a tandem three wheeler, gets a great review from users, mountain buggies are much loved but very expensive (however they go and go and go and go...) my personal favourite is the adventure buggy company's everest double which is fantastic, i've got one with a toddler seat as i've got 2 yr old twins and a nearly one year old, but the pushchair is the best i've had.

    I hope this helps!
  • hi, we purchased the maclaren twin buggy (side to side ) in september, for our newborn and two year old, it's comfy and snuggly and came with foot muffs and raincover, but it is an absolute nightmare as it won't go through a lot of shop/cafe /house doorways! and if you use the train the only ones we can go on without taking the children out and folding it down, are virgin trains. two children are hard work and this buggy has made my work even harder! added to the fact that the two year old invariably wants to walk....he isn't massive but the foot muff doesn't fit when he's in the seat. the shopping tray holds very little after we have put the baby bag in. so I would advise you too look for something a little more user friendly.it also takes up all the boot space in a mondeo.. shame really as it looks great and is easy to handle. hope this helps

I bought a tandem buggy when I had my second one and then someone gave me an unused side by side one a few months later that wasn't being used. I found I used them both depending on what I was doing. The tandem was good for public transport, shopping and busy areas and the side by side was good for going for long walks and anywhere where there was plenty of space.

Dont think I would go for the tandems.

Wasnt aware that the Maclaren was any wider than any other twin??

How does this compare with the the mamas and papas twin aria?
I know this one is lighter than the Maclaren but is it really worth paying the extra for as this is around £200 with the addition of foot muffs and raincover if not slightly more?

Thanks for all the above help and any more comments

the aria tends to become unpushable when you have over 9 months olds in it and i've also heard that the brakes tend to go fairly quickly. also the "universal" footmuffs do not fit the twin aria, shop staff will tell you they will but you can't wedge a baby in there, lol!

maclaren twin traveller is 76cm wide, the rally twin is 73cm

    compared to other popular twins:

    mountain buggy : 75cm

phil and teds e3 side by side : 73cm

    adventure buggy twin everest :74cm

combi we2 is 76cm, same as the maclaren

I know it doesn't sound much but when you are trying to get through doors it makes all the difference, lol!
  • We have 1 year old twins and a 2 year old (I know....don't ask!) We had the Maclaren and it did the job. However, we have just bought the Marco skyline and a buggy pod. Its fantastic. I can now go out with all 3 on my own, although I do get some strange looks! I purchased it from https://www.2become4.com and they were very helpful. The Marco is a double but one child sits behind the other, but isn't as big as a tandem. It gets into shops and around town with no problems because its only about as wide as a single. Hope this helps good luck with the baby.

I got mine off of ebay its a side by side one though i have no idea of its name or who its made by :o it cost me £80 with p&p so was a right bargain ;) It is 73cm wide which was my main reason for buying it as i needed to be able to get it inside my flat without taking the girls out of it, though i do still have problems in some shops and there are some shops which i point blank refuse to go in now purely because i cant get through with the buggy and end up taking half of their displays with me :o

  • I had the Maclaren with my eldest two and it was a distaster! The wheels worn down very quickly and it was impossible to push with one hand when my eldest wanted to walk.

I also became a recluse because I couldn't get in most of the shops where I live. Ended up with a graco tandem buggy - Graco don;t make it any more but they had a similar one in mothercare catalogue recently for £100 and folded up tiny and did the job well.
