Car Insurence

I drive a landrover Discovery and i recently bought a fiesa that needed a little work.
I'm 38 and have full no claims discount and wanted to have the fiesta added to my insurnce.
The woman said that it would cost an exstra £500 bloody pounds becosue i had to build up no claims on the fiesta?
She said i had built up 70% on my landrover and had to do the same on my fiesta before i got get cheap insurnce like my landrover???????

Now i built up my no claims on differnt cars since i past my test in 1990 and i built it up becosue i have had no accidents.
I think she is talking a load of crap and would like some advice from someone who has two cars if possible or someone that works for an insurnce company.

Thanks Darren

Ps is she smokeing something?????

No she is not talking rubbish.

It is normal practice for someone to be required earn No Claims Bonus for each car - although some firms will give an introductory bonus for a second car.

I have insurance on 2 cars one of which is owned by my wife. I had to build up a full NCB on each car.

If you could add cars to your insurance as you wish, what is to stop you owning a fleet of cars on your policy and letting your children, brother/sister, mother/father, friends all use them all taking advantage of your full NCB and all for the price of one policy?

It's a very expensive business insuring two cars; I looked into it a while back and it's just like you found it.

  • What?? I thought a NCB was something that you built up yourself, not against a car. That's always the way I declare it to insurance companies and I'm not changing it. You should do the same.

You do earn the NCB for yourself and not the car, but that doesn't entitle you to insure 2 or more cars(for everyday use) using that same NCB earned for one car.

I am not sure what you mean.

Are you saying you added a second car to the policy getting full NCB on that car as well?- e.g. running both cars at the same time(which the OP wanted)

    or

You built up a NCB using one car and insured a second car with another insurance company using your full NCB from the first car - running both cars at the same time?

If the latter you must have been economical with the truth on the second proposal form.
  • I just wanted my R Reg Ford Fiesta to be added to my insurence policy and to pay some exstra money.
I do not exspect to pay an exstra £500 for an R Reg Ford Fiesta?.
A fleet of cars? I thought i would take my Fiesta to town to do the shopping and saving me taking the big landrover.
The Fiesta only is a 1.3 engine and its nearly as much as the land rover to insure?
I need the land rover to take all my kids to school and to tow my dads mini digger to jobs, thats wht i have the land roevr.

You build the NCD yourself, however it can only be 'redeemed' against one vehicle at a time. What you've been told is correct however many companies will give you an introductory discount of some description if you are persistant.
NCD's are rarely transparent anyway, once scruitinised they are far from what they purport to be at times, allegedly.

When you insure a 2nd car then you have to start again on the NCD. That's how it workls. Expensive business.

You can't just add a vehicle to a policy, you have to insure it separately. That is why the NCB does not apply and why the quote is so high. Ask them to quote again with a discretionary NCB and see if they will do that, thus bringing the price down. You will still have to have a separate policy though.

Would definitely be worth shopping around then as some insurers would give you some discount anyway for already having a first car with them. If yours isn't interested in doing that, then maybe they don't deserve your business.
