Digital TV & SFA

Sorry if this has been asked already - I've tried a search but didn't find what I was looking for.
I'm looking at saving money by cancelling my Sky contract and going to Freeview - my TV already has built in Freeview but due to the aerial in my current SFA I cannot get any channels - thus why I have Sky.
I've called MHS who stated it was DE responsibility - I then called DE who stated aerial repairs were MHS responsibility - I again called MHS who stated they would take the details and pass them onto DE (a process that can take upto 53 days and I still may end up in the same situation as I am now)
Does anyone know who's responsibility it is to maintain TV aerials, especially in light of the digital switchover?
Thank you

get a freesat box instead and plug it straight into your sky dish...problem solved and you get 2 HD channelsIf you find yourself in a fair fight, then you have failed to plan properly
I've only ever been wrong once! and that was when I thought I was wrong but I was right0 -
I agree with Cat with the freesat option,
I Installed my own freeview aerial into my loft when i moved into my new SFA, problem is the signal is still week. The better option is for the freeview aerial to be outside, however this may not be possible.
FreeSat still the way to go or just pick up the Freesat from Sky Channels.0 -
I seem to remember that aerials were the responsibility of the occupier - if my memory serves me right we moved into quarters that had no aerial as the previous occupant had taken it with them :eek:Mags - who loves shopping0

In SFA at Lyneham we cancelled our sky only to find freeview didn't work but called MHS and they got someone out who tested it and then replaced the aerial. It wasn't someone from MHS though, they contracted a local company to do it I think?0

Probably pick up a freesat box not much more than it will cost to have an engineer to come out install a new aerial.
Its..
Price of Freeview box + Price of aerial fitted
vs
Price of FreeSat Box

The EXISTING aerial is MHS' responsibility. If it is a non-digital type and working correctly (getting at least 4 channels) then there is no obligation for it to be changed by MHS. DE will have to pay to fi boosters or replace aerials to digital standards, and then MHS will undertake the change
BUT....
If you have an aerial that has 'happened to break' and is beyond repair, you will get a replacement digital aerial. If you know what I mean...Praying at the church of MSE should be compulsory!

it is housing responsibilty, thought they will argue that its not, and if you can recieve analogue channels they wont budge. My fuse blew so i couldnt get any channels and it was like talking to a brick wall as the guy was adamant that it was my responsibilty as it was digital tv i couldnt watch....hello digital comes through the ariel mate!!! i then changed it to ok i dont get watchable analogue either so he eventually agreed to put a request in for an engineer...2 week wait. The engineer came 3 days later and says MHS will try and do anything to get out of replacing ariels as with the digital switch over it will cost them a fortune, plus they give you a 2 week time frame hoping you will say no thanks and get someone out yourself at your expense. lets face it most families with kids couldnt live without tv for that long. sorry about the length of my rant .0

MHS are respsonsible. It clearly says so on their website!

I would try them again and quote them on it! Althought its a non urgent repair (if you break it, i mean if its broken) they still have to fix it according to the set guidelines so don't them bully you.0 -

just out of interest. have spoken to DE today and asked about the digital switch over, They are in talks about assigning a contract to a company to deal which the Aerials for switch over, considering here in Wales it's supposed to happen next year,
She also said MHS may not get the contract.
Therefore things may move along smoothly0
