The oat and coconut bars (mine was more like cake??) were excellent! Thank you LIH.
They remind me, if a few sultanas were added of the mr kippling slices - country slices I think they are called.
A big hit here and packed up in the lunchbox ready for tomorrow :j

:A LOL
re. kiwis. i also do the 'boiled egg' aprocah as my kids call it.
other ideas for the boxes are..
crackers with cream cheese or marmite mix put together in sandwiches
pot of hm hummous and veg sticks
hard boiled eggs sliced
rolled up slices of ham,
cheese sticks...not the ones you buy, but that 5 counties cheese that looks stripey cut into sticks and wrapped in cling film..these are great as other kids don't take the mickey cos they look quite plasticky....
i agree about the teasing, i've had numerous battles with my 7yo dd about bits she leaves when other kids make comments over the contents of her lunch. it really upsets me that because her lunch is not plastic white bread with plastic ham/cheese , a cheese string and a choc bar,she is alienated... it's a very sad symbol of our society's attitude to real food.
anyway, rant over, i just get very sad about it, no woner our nation has so man health problems. the worst thing is when the excuse becomes ' we can;t afford...' we all know it's cheaper to use real food if you are careful...
ok, so it wasn't over...!it is now.
humzingers are fab, they are soooo much better than any other bar and they have very shiny cool looking wrapppers too. expensive yes, but worth it for the friday treat! sometimes also found in the baby food section of boots.

My daughter likes to take kiwi to school too. I don't do anything with it, just pack a spoon to dig the top off and scoop the insides out0

Hi all,
I'm quite new to this so please be nice
My children eat almost anything (with for some strange reason the exception of cheese) but i am starting to feel like i have gotton into a rut with school packed lunches.
A typical day consists of a sandwich (egg, tuna, ham) yoghurt, fresh fruit (pineapple, apple, orange, blueberries, strawberries etc) a flapjack, cereal bar or a muffin.
Have any of you wonderful people got any ideas to vary the contents? the children haven't complained but i know i would get fed up of the same things week after week.
Thank you in advance, heavenleigh xxI will save my tesco £1 savings stamps this year! .......so far = £50 (full card#1)

try varying the type of bread - pita, wrap, white, granary, fruit bread etc
also, why not have a look at a recent thread 'I hate sandwiches' - that might give you a few ideas!
btw - I think that the variations you have already mentioned would make very a tasy lunch!!0 -
Well, that sounds exactly like my kids' lunchboxes
Mine don't complain either.
One thing I do try to include once a week is a pitta pizza. This is really simple; it's just a pitta bread spread with tomato puree, sprinkled with whatever they like (ham and sweetcorn in our case) and topped with cheese. Grill till bubbly, cool and pack. I make mine the day before. Muffins (the bread kind) work well too.
Another idea are pasta and rice salads. Cooked pasta or rice with some sort of protein; tuna, egg, ham, chicken, beans, and some cooked or raw veg.0 -
Thank you both,
i will deffinately try your suggestions.
I have been browsing the mse website for months but only just today stumbled upon this board and i must say, what a fantastic board it is, i have spent hours reading previous thread and have picked up so many hints and tips already, i am afraid i may become addicted!!
