Hi would you have the recipe for these please?
I got the recipe for the bars off here, but have modified it slightlyhere goes
1 cup sugar (4oz)
1/2 cup marg
2 eggs
1 cup flour (I use plain wholemeal flour)
2 tsps mixed spice
1 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
1 cup of porridge oats
2 apples (grated)
1/2 cup of coconut
Put all ingredients except apples and coconut in a bowl, mix up then stir through the apples and coconut, put into a greased tin,I use a large oblong pyrex dish 10'x5' very approx! bake 180 C for about 25 mins, cut into 12 bar shapes, more if you want small ones, less if you want big ones  ,very simple and the kids love them

This sounds great, LIH. Thank you! I'll do those tomorrow.
I've made the weetabix brownies from this thread already!
They went down well but I forgot to cut them before they cooled, so now they crumble which means we're eating plates of delicious crumbs. Ah well0 -
Our packed lunches are just a variation on a theme!
Either pasta salad or HM sandwich - typical filling of cheese, ham, chicken, marmite, jam etc
Always a piece of fruit - they love kiwi
Dried fruit or seeds
HM yogurt
I estimate its less than a £1 per child per day. I get my meat from the butcher or deli counter and have it sliced wafer thin - then I can take advantage of any offers.
I try to put in something sweet twice a week - either HM popcorn, flapjack or a fairy cake etc."A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength. Do not be pursuaded into buying what you do not need or cannot afford." Quaker Faith & Practice 1.02.410 -

What, smothered in lovely warm custard as well?? Think I might deliberately forget to let them cool in that case ...
Oh Gosh! You've been in my kitchen LOL
Hubby said to me; these would be great slathered in custard, so yep, crumbs and custard all around
I'm going to start the other recipe now. Mmmmmmmmm.......

Here's a recipe for mini veg frittatas, ideal for lunchboxes.
Makes 12
250g baking potatoes
125g frozen mixed veg
little oil for brushing
75g cheddar / gruyere / emmental cheese
6 eggs
150ml milk
salt and pepper
vegetable sticks
Set oven to 190C/375F/Gas 5
Scrub potatoes, cut into small squares
Bring potatoes to boil with the frozen veg
Cook for 4 minutes until potatoes are tender; drain them
Use a pastry brush to grease a muffin tin
Grate the cheese and divide into the muffin holes along with the veg
Beat eggs, milk and salt and pepper into a jug; pour equally over the potatoes and veg
Cook for 10mins until eggs are set
Delicious! 12 meals worth (admittedly it's a bit pricier with 6 eggs but a good way of using up left over veg from Sunday dinner as well)
Enjoy!That's Numberwang!0 -
someone back there said kiwis, do you slice them into a plastic bowl or something?Just call me Nodwah the thread killer0

I slice them and put in a small pot when my son takes them. Got 4 pots (which were baby food pots) in one of the £1 shops which are an ideal size. I buy a large bag of raisins and refil the tubs, or dry my own fruit cheaper than the little boxes.
My son likes the Humzingers fruit strings and the fruit bowl fruit flakes but added to lunches every day makes it expensive. One day I might be more organised...........

Actually I just slice them in half and give the children a spoon each - they then just 'scoop' out the flesh at school and return the 'manky' skin to me later!!!"A simple life freely chosen is a source of strength.
