And you have been given practical answers. By people who are or have been bankrupt and therefore know how "it works".

As already stated. Check your HP contracts first.

And if a few hundred pounds run around is your only option, then so be it.

I don't think that is rubbing it in your face. It is just telling you how it is. You did ask.

I am not. The villa is going to have go into the "pot" my UK home is going up for sale but will be repossessed ultimately. I had hoped that we would be able to keep the cars Hubbies new job is a good job with a substantial income but he will be working long days.

    expect a IVO anyway then

what i struggle to understand is why you bought two brand new cars (1 only a month ago?) when you knew quite obviously that your incomes were about to fall so badly as to consider going BR, yet now it seems hubby will be earning well so are you cancelling the BR?...

A few hundred pound run around is not an option.

I think you will find this may have been a very good option prior to BR.
Although the OR could still have an interest in the 'old banger' as you don't work, forget school runs/shopping they are not seen as essential by the OR so you may find you are begging to keep a few hundred pound car.
    Just like I had to.

But make sure you trim a little off the weekly shopping and save up for repairs. I've learned to love our post-BR banger, but when she goes wrong it is costly to put her right.

    This is true lily.
Mine has overheated twice/back fired & regularly 'runs-on'.:rotfl:
But hey my son is a trainee mechanic & practises on my car every week-end so I'm ok.

We all know how stressful this process can be! Please take time to think why people may be giving the answers they are. Look at their other posts on other threads to see if there being honest and supportive, or judgemental.

If we accuse others of being judgemental, before we have taken time to check their motives; then we too are in danger of being judgemental.

Breathe deeply, and post up your SOA as suggested. Then all can see the whole picture. You will find some advice goes against what you're hoping for, but you will also find other advice that goes in your favour, as you explore how BR works, and how it can be made to work for you (if it is for you).

Sunk, I'm jealous! Mine is only 8 (that's son, not car, which is 2 years older) but perhaps if I get him a Beginners' Guide to Car Mechanics for Christmas....

"new" engine in September, new exhaust in October... Ouch!

By the way, I think the OP said she couldn't afford the couple of hundred pounds for a banger. But yes, if you post up an SOA, I'm sure there will be plenty of helpful suggestions for places to trim your budget.

I hope this won't come over in the wrong way, but surely if you can afford the HP payments on a £17k car, you should be able to find a few hundred pounds for a cheap runaround to at least tide you over for now? I know it's not ideal but it would be better than nothing.

From everything that I've read on here, a second car is highly likely to be taken. I'm worrying about losing my car and it's only worth £700. I'm putting forward a case to keep it as I have young twins and a back problem so public transport is not the most feasible option for me. I have been told though that it's the running costs of keeping it, not just the value of the car.

That's true, Mrs ST. They do take running costs into account when assessing whether you can keep the car.
