  • a weeks cover is usually not available, more likely you will be asked to increase cover on your policy to include him up until the renewal date of your insurance, all you do then is after the week revert back to your original drivers and get a refund of premium, the difference between the amount charged and the refund is the amount you pay for the week. Beware though your insurer will probably have a £20 or so "adjustment fee" so an overall fee of £40 may be charged plus the cost of the additional cover for the higher risk for the week !!

This might not be wholly correct. I have always thought of car insurance as a - yearly- policy (read the small print in yours).
If you cancel half way through technically (although this will differ from company to company) they can ask you to pay the balance of the sum outstanding or if you have paid annually in advance you have no automatic right of a partial refund.
Before doing what losgiganteskid suggests, speak to your insurance company and get details in writing.
  • ejones999, if you read my post again you will see i'm not suggesting cancellation, where did you get that from ?? - merely an adjustment to the policy, the same as you would do if you changed cars !! -

A liitle brother on a provisional licence might cost more for a weeks addition than your policy normally costs for a year:eek:

  • That would of course depend on the age of MAKA, if he/she is of ancient years, his/her little brother may be 45 ish !! :snow_laug

I added my Mum to my motor insurance policy for a fortnight in August - with Tesco motor insurance. They just sent out a revised schedule showing her as a driver for a limited period. Did it over the phone and it was all really easy.

  • My mum always adds me every year to her policy for just a week so I can help with the driving when we both go on holiday. As a previous poster said its the adjustment cost that makes up alot of the cost.

Point I was trying to make is that a car policy is for a year not a week. Some companies would charge you for the rest of the year and not refund you when you changed the policy back.
It is good to see that this has not happened to above posters and they have had some success.

I put a friend on my insurance for 5 days when we went away, it cost about £21 with Nationwide. He had been driving for 3 years, I had only just passed my test lol
