i don't think obese people should pay for 2 seats either, there are plenty of thin folk who like to stake their claim to half you seat by sticking their elbows out , and also those height restricted people who like to recline their seat in front of you.

seems unfair to me that the fat fighters should be expected to pay double, when there are so many travellers who are just plain rude/thoughtless and don't give a damn about the person sitting next to them
  • Or, they could lose weight, and fit snugly into the seat instead of spilling out all over the place and sweating.

Why on earth should a fat person have to get two for one? If two people board an aircraft, they fill two seats, and thus have to pay. If a person the size of two people gets on, the maths is the same.

And before anyone trots out the 'IT'S MAAAH THHHYROID' argument, perhaps it is. But it sure as hell will not be the case for most people, and as such, unless they have a medical certificate, make them pay twice.

(and I say this as a fattychops myself, though, thankfully, I don't need to be wedged into my seat by six strong men)

Dear f*****g God .... The world has gone f*****g mad.

Imagine if this idiotic idea took off (no pun intended) in the UK? .... 25% of the UK population are clinically obese !!!!!! and thus would, I assume be entitled to claim two seats for their outsized Buttocks.... and if they did, this would mean less passengers and less revenue for the airlines, with the natural fall out being an increase in the cost of flights!!

And if we are going to pander to the needs of the outsize traveller, what of folk who through no fault of their own are tall? if ye olde dustbin swallowers deserve to get two seats and no doubt two meals, then surely folk over a certain height deserve to get the exit row seats, two seats or perhaps an upgrade?

The world has gone mad I tell you, mad, mad, mad!! :D

  • In my opinion...I'm a size 8 and 5ft1 btw...I have paid for my seat, so I should be given all my seat. If I'm sat next to an obese person they are taking up the seat I have paid for. If they can have an extra seat for free, why can't I?! I don't see why obese people should have extra room when the people who look after their weight pay the same price for one seat.

but, at 5ft 1 your exactly the person who doesn't need to recline their chair back, but does, and cut off blood to my knees, as i'm 6'5 and sitting directly behind you!
  • I don't ever recline my seat because I hate inconveniencing other people ;) and also because I don't need to.

Just my point is that why should someone else get two seats for the price of one just because they're obese? In my view, they should have to pay for an extra seat.

FWIW, I think we should all pay for airline seats based on our weight in the same way we pay for our baggage

If you are that tall then surely (following the theme of the article) you should be entitled to free extra legroom in business class.

I'm a really fussy eater and only like champagne and caviare so should be entitled to that surely next time I fly economy. :D
  • lol! :)

I agree with paying by weight - it won't happen - but it would make it fair. In my view, we all have a certain amount of weight per person - this includes body weight and luggage. An obese person therefore carries more weight than I will.
