Thank you for all the replies. I know his behaviour at times can be quite challenging at home, and was worried about how he behaved at school, but his teacher has assured me he is not TOO difficult to handle. He is very excitable, especially when there are other children around.
Thanks for that link GR, I'll take a look

It may be worth clarifyng why your son is to be placed on the SEN register, as strictly speaking 'gifted and talented' is not a special educational need under the Code of Practice for SEN. Is is because of other needs, perhaps related to his commucation, behavioural or social skills? These may well warrant additional support via an Individual Education Plan, which would be drawn up with parents and include specific interventions and classroom differentiation to address areas of difficulty.
This is separate from schools' support for G&T.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0 -
Well done to your little boy.
I just had my sons (4 and 6) reviews on Monday and they were great too. DS6 is a "natural mathematician" and DS4 is working with the year group above.
Such a lovely feeling isn't it?!

You'd better start saving for the PhD then!!

My son is on the SEN register since he was 4 as he struggled to find a difference between certain letters and was guessing words rather than reading them out. yet, his maths was miles ahead of his class and thats all he wanted to do. He is 6 now and is still on the register and has a lesson with a LEA every week. I have always felt it was a bit uneccesary, he was 4 - i dont like the idea of rushing writing on children, especially its a welsh and english school so he was learnign 2 languages at the same time.0

My DS is on SEN register and DD is on Gifted and Talented. If you are on SEN there should be an IEP (individual education plan) written up and a copy should be given to parents. My DS by the way is amazing at mental maths, top of year 10 but has word finding difficulties due to his autism. I agree that it's great that it has been picked up early that he's very clever and any extra help can only be positive to make sure he stays ahead. Well done!Too many children, too little time!!!

hi one of my children has adhd and aspergers and is on the sen register, she is not statmented but does get extra help within the school when needed.
she is in what the kids call the "bottom group" for english but the top groups for science and maths
we are very proud of her because whether she is gifted in something and not in another she always tries her best, she gets extra help were needed ie english and encouraged to continue doing as she is in the others.
She is a very clever girl but it can sometimes take a special kind of teacher to bring her out of herself so to speak.
She is nearly 14 now and will be starting gcse`s next year, she is having a programme tailored to her needs so she can continue to do well:j2 years smoke free :j:eek: now to lose the extra 4 stone :eek:0 -
At one parent's evening a while ago our daughter was flagged up as, hushed voice, "gifted". To be honest it was nice to hear but we took it with a pinch of salt. It's a long way to go and plenty of opportunities to fall off the wagon will present themselves on her way to No.10! Just keep doing what you're doing and don't load up the pressure too much is what we decided to do.0
