As it's been said, it's not for everyone, and you have to be open minded about it, but I went, as did my OH for quitting smoking, and I was such an addict and not really that interested in giving up, but I went, and so glad I did. That was 9 months ago, and haven't smoked since.
My OH also went to the hypnotist for 'fear of flying', and that worked a treat too.

As i said before, its not cheap! The first time I went I actually had a panic attack because I was so scared of losing control! Having said that, the next week I was fine, went "under" easily. You are totaly aware of everything going on around you and you can hear everything the hypnotherapist says to you. You CANNOT be made to do anything that is against your better judgement or moral values.
Yes, there is the part that you (there are various scripts) go down to a stram, or down a flight of stairs etc, and you have to really visualise this in you minds eye. You need to go along with what the therapist says. However, if a script is really not working for you (ie you're in a lift in his script and youre claustrophobic) then tell him and he will choose another.
Like every therapist, there has to be a rapport between you.
A good therapist will sit with you for a FREE talk through session before a course of treatment to see if you are compatible.
It is worth doing. Give it a go.
Good luck!0 -
cattie wrote:I've tried hypnosis twice in the past, using a different person each time. Both were complete failures. I am somebody who has tremendous difficulty in relaxing, so have had to accept that I'm not a suitable candidate for being hypnotized.
Not sure this rings true in every case ... I also have great difficulty in relaxing, in fact I don't think I ever relax completely unless asleep (and that's only four hours a night). I believe it's more your mental attitude towards it ... just be open-minded.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0 -
Definatly use a reputable hypnotist. I was petrified of heights (even standing on a chair to change a light bulb I could freeze and have to stay there until someone lifted me down!) I had gone through all possible ideas why, as had my late parents until I was hypnotised. I had completely blanked out an incident when I was 3 and was sat on a horse which took off with me...a non rider down the road whilst my friends mother went to get me a riding helmet. The excellent hypnotist slowly took me back in my life till he got to this point and showed me it was ok as a lovely lady stopped the horse. How I had forgotten this I dont know as I remember it now so cleary and without fear apparently you sometimes blank out horrendous things with part of your brain. It has had such a positive affect on the whole family as I can now fly(by plane of course!!!) and do all sorts that I was unable to before0

i wish i could find a good hypnotist, im sure the one i went to was a fraud..i cant 'relax' and every time they tell me to go down a stream or whatever i cant concentrate on what they are saying at all, my minds really overactive however hard i try. how do you know when you are 'under'?Fr. Stack: While you were out, I got the keys to your car. And drove it into a big wall. And if you don't like it, tough. I've had my fun, and that's all that matters.0

You don't really go "under", just become deeply relaxed, so your mind's open to suggestion. Your therapist should do some sort of "test" (as mine did), to make sure this is the case.Wins since 2009 = £17,600MANY THANKS TO ALL OPS0

I went to see a hypnotist a few years back to try and lose weight. Didn't feel any different to be honest. When I told a friend what I was going to do, they said, mind that she doesn't pinch your purse if you do get hypnotised, so I worried about that the whole time.0

Some GPs are also hypnotherapists, your gp should be able to give you contact details of local ones.0

Oh pumpa we are so alike. At last someone else who finds it impossible to relax & understands that what it's like just not to be able to do visualisation.
I've never been able to make my mind go blank either, it's always spinning away. It would be so nice just to be able to unplug my brain or take the batteries out once in a while to give myself a nice rest. :rudolf:The bigger the bargain, the better I feel.
I should mention that there's only one of me, don't confuse me with others of the same name.0
