Thanks.... If I last until half ten tonight it will we a full six days without spending any money...... packed-lunch and a two litre bottle of tap water in my bag and a ten-minute walk to work. No more taxis because I cannot be bothered walking, bottles of irn-bru and papers for me.
- Given 30 days notice to mobile phone contract
- Cancelled elephant car insurance
- Collected up nearly 150pound worth of change/notes from around my bedroom...... if anything showed my previous attitude to money it must be that
Also- sold the 'inherited' car for £1200!!!! :j :j Going to put half to the debt and the other half to a weekend away for me and the GF- if I can convince her that it is worth the money.
You're absolutely flying! And great news about the car!! Where you planning for the weekend away? Although - if your g/friend is even half as big a nag as me - you'll probably have to work hard to convince her!
You should try freezing your bottle of water, then taking it out in the morning before you go to work - it gradually melts throughout the day at a drinkable rate - and keeps it nice and cold!If you don't work in a warm office though, you'd maybe have to take it out the night before and put it in the fridge - so that it's at least started to thaw! Just a thought if you fancied cold rather than lukewarm stuff!

Thanks will try that with the water as the tap-water in our place is real bad.
Summary...- Decided to put all £1200 from the sale of the car to the debt. I was planning to put half towards a weekend break but my lovely GF persuaded me to put it all to the debt and put some money away every month in the new year.
- Got £1250 wages on Thursday as some overtime from September finally came through. (long story)
- Got the credit union loan and used it to clear debt.
- Not spent any unnecessary money in two weeks.

Nice to hear you're doing well with it all. I agree with your girlfriend about paying stuff off first before any big spend on anything nice, but you're allowed to have a bit of fun too on the way... I guess when you've got things properly under control you'll be about right for a decent weekend break to celebrate. If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

Hey guys. Sorry I have not posted for a while. I have been working 6 or 7 days a week since December. A few of my colleagues have left and the boss decided not to replace them immediately, therefore bringing a return of overtime.
I have updated my signature with my new figures and have been living on a budget of £75 per week in order to pay off debt. (this debt repayment does not include my Jan overtime as my work has been rather awkward in paying this- as usual)
I am on holiday this week and have agreed to go into work to cover a few shifts. I could have worked the full week for extra money but I really need a break from the place.
I am expecting about £800-1000 overtime for Jan as I was working evenings and weekends extra for a fair bit of the month. This will go to my old student overdraft.Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
1. Selling the car I never used.
2. Canceling an old insurance policy- I did not know what I was insuring
3. Returning recently purchased, un-used items to the shops for refunds or gift vouchers
4. Getting a sick feeling when I calculated that I spent £300 on magazines in six weeks (not dirty ones I promise)
5. Wearing clothes/shoes more than twice.
6. Finding bags of clothes that I had never even worn.
7. Living within a strict budget
8. Packed lunches
9. Never refusing overtime
10. Finding hundreds of £s of loose change all over my bedroom. This showed my attitude to money. Why bother with change when you can withdraw another £50, eh?Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
Wow. You've really cracked on with it. Can I say "well done you" without sounding patronising? I think everyone's been there to a greater or lesser degree, it's tough to learn how to manage money and I'm glad you've got your finger on it now.If you don't stand for something, you'll fall for anything0

it really is impressive, is it not?If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0

Thank you! I have been helped by....
1. The low interest on the Credit Union Loan allowing me to 'slay' my other nasty debts.
2. The windfall from selling the car I inherited from my brother.
3. Overtime. More than doubled my salary with overtime in December. (in fact i made 2.55times my salary when overtime was included) I hardly had a moment to myself in December but this also helped to reduce my spending.
Also got some back-dated pay due to salary re-grading and some overtime I had almost given up on.
4. My mum and GF making things so easy for me financially (including Christmas)
5. Selling some stuff.
If only I was to be paid the Jan overtime i was due on 29/01/09 (around £800-1000), I would be able to pay some more debt............. I can but dream !Debt Free thanks to MSE!!!! £15,000 debt became £0 thanks to some hard work and all you lovely people!0 -
ps... just double checked. My debt is still slightly over 8k (not including the debt my parents helped with as explained above). I might sneakily forget to correct my sig
