Nobody bought me any gadget but I must own up to buying one of those little kitchen gas torches as I love the crunchy sugar tops to creme brulee and my grill just doesn't get hot enough to do them properly. Well it was half price and I've wanted one for years!

Now, just what else can I do with it as I have to convince OH that it really was a bargain!

This will impress him - next time you have a joint of pork you can singe the little hairs on the skin  to make your crackling more aesthetically pleasing

No major kitchen gadgets under the tree this year (got a sewing machine instead!) However, I did get a lovely tupperware defrosting box as an 'extra' pressie - I've been trying to steal my mother's for years! I also got a selection of tiny tins for making those fancy tiny French patisseries (can't think what they're called). Sadly I got on the scales this morning and it wasn't good news so I don't think I'll be making patisseries for a while :(

  • Jamie - it's really great, you can slice your HM loaf up evenly and effortlessly, it's dead easy to freeze and take a couple of slices out as you need them.

The biggest money saver is with slicing meat, a piece of HM cooked gammon is much nicer than bought and it goes on forever if it's sliced nicely.

There is a safety feature - you need to press 2 buttons together to make it start, then you let one go and just hold on to the other as it slices, and the tray part folds up to make it smaller to store. It was bought with a £5.00 off voucher from Lakeland
  • The slicers look like a brilliant idea. I cook a piece of gammon every 2 weeks so I would use it often. Is it easy to clean?

I received a dehydrator. I've tried some banana which worked but thats all so far. I'm hoping to use it for the fruit I grow in the summer. I'm also going to train DD to go to the market in her lunch hour.
It will take a long time to become 'moneysaving'. I could have bought about 10 years suppy with the ammont it cost but I suppoes it will be healthy!

    BTW Happy New Year

  • The slicer comes apart easily - the blade has a twist button thingy in the centre to remove it, you can carry the blade with this button thing to take it to the sink or DW. Everything else including the base board that the food sits on and the piece that the food slides against dismantles to wash. The main body bit that houses the motor can be wiped over
  • I went completely overboard and bought myself a Hobart Mixer! Just waiting for the sausage stuffer to arrive now. Its got pride of place on my (slightly bent) worktop. :j

    Hi AT

I bought one of these and could not get on with it atall!!! -went back to using a knife. Infact it was the first thing I sold on Ebay!!!!!!! Funnily enough with the postage, the woman could have bought one from the shops for the price she paid for it - but I was not complaining.
