Mobile Contract Cost Calculator - Find out YOUR cost based on the mins & txts YOU use

Options
I've been looking at various new deals for mobile phones, it's easy to see how much they cost each month, how many free mins you get, how many free texts, and you can compare them. But what if you go over your free minutes? what if you aren't using all of them?

I knocked together a pretty crude spreadsheet which helped me work out which contract would be best for ME. I've tidied it up and changed it so that you can enter the number of texts and minutes you will use on average in a month, it will then work out how much the contract will cost you from start to finish, taking into account calls outside your inclusive minutes and texts.

it's quite surprising what an extra few mins + texts can do to your total costs over the course of a year!

It can be downloaded here:

Obviously it doesn't take into account extreme's like premium rate numbers or phonecard override thingies (whatever they're called :p ), take a peek and you'll see what i mean, hopefully it'll be of use to some people!

Also, PLEASE tell me if you can see any obvious mistakes (like the fact that i nearly uploaded it with the annual total being comprised of a yrs line rental, but only a months txt & call charges  )

  • I completely forgot to mention (although if you've had a look you'll notice), it's great for working out contracts with cashback deals.

Has an area to enter the number of 1/2 price or FREE months line rental, encorporates it into the final price.

Certainly in my case the cashback deals aren't actually as good/cheap as some of the other tariffs available (mainly cos i text a lot!)
  • Thanks for this, my contract is up next month and have been considering a move to another network. Utilising your cost calculator I have managed to find out that by moving to Three's Talk & Text 600 I can save nearly £450 a year!!!

This is a very valuable tool and I recommend everyone just tries it, I thought I was on a good deal with my current provider - how wrong I was!!!
  • self bump

Thanks for the feedback, i managed to save myself £270 a year using it. hoping by bumping it a few more people can save themselves a few pennies! :j

I even worked out that cashback deals weren't actually very good deals for me due to my excessive texting! (Doh! just noticed i said that in my last post!)

  • Site Admin...
    Potential Sticky thread?
Seems everytime I bump the thread to the top the spreadsheet file gets more downloads?

I won't be offended if you say no ;)
