I thought the Abbey did as well, but again onshore - I'm after offshore

Am pleased you have brought up the Abbey. I have a particular grouse against this miserable bunch. Are you aware that their savings a/cs are different to all others offshore ? I've been through this with them at both their Hong Kong Branch and their Channel Isles branches.
Unlike ALL others if you just want to deposit your savings you cannot ! They demand you open a full account with them and ask questions and demand answers that are none of their business and I have told them so. This is not about money laundering...they go far deeper and seem to be assessing each depositor and establishing a credit rating for the customer .
What's wrong with that you may ask ? Because one doesn't want or need credit...only just place ones savings with them.
They ask about your cv . Where you've worked, how long, name of employer, work record etc. Knowing your address is not enough. but .how long you've lived there etc . Can't exactly remember but pretty sure they ask about your income expenditure and assets.

In fact a full blown credit application just to deposit a few grand.

AND this was in response to ads they place offering savings products !

I told them in no uncertain terms where to get off. They offer a home for savings then force a fully fledged bank account on you . Outragious !!!
