Will O2's mess up damage my credit rating?

I am very careful to guard my credit rating esp in the current climate. I recently got a new mobile phone with o2 over the internet.
The company I got it from gave the wrong bank details to o2. I noticed when viewing my details online, and called o2 2 days before the direct debit was due to go out and changed the details to the correct ones. The chap I spoke to said this wouldn't cause any problems. I guess I should have checked that the payment went out but have been v busy. It didn't and as a result outgoing call barring was put on today.
I called up and paid by a debit card and expressed my corncern at being given incorrect info. The lady assured me that this episode won't affect my credit rating in any way. She said as I hadn't been fully cut off it didn't matter.
Is this correct? How come a late credit card payment would affect it? Is it not the same thing? It is too early to check atm. Am I just being parnoid?
I have searched using google and it seems to suggest it will be affected. O2 were adamant it wouldn't tho.

credit files are updated a minumum of 1 month arrears, most companies adjust before reporting updates if the mess up over late apayment is thier fault, if they dont you can ask them to adjust itSO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0
