Maplin are currently doing a deal on a new 1.5TB external desktop HDD for £129.99, with free delivery. As the thread's OP asked for cheapest per GB, this works out at £43.33 per 500GB.

Is there actually any hard proof that the cheapo brands will break down? I'm sure good makes (Western Digital, Hitachi, Seagate etc) are very good but has anyone bought or know of an unreliable HD?
3.5 would be fine for me as portability not an issue.
I am thankful for the advice given , but whilst it can be entertaining can we also keep thread good natured

Indeed.
Exactly, how many hdd aren't made by WD, Hitachi, Seagate, Maxtor and Fujitsu anyway?NURSE: "Shouldn't it be sterilized, doctor?"
