Virgin Media/BPI letters

Hi
Today I received a letter from Virgin Media/BPI alleging that I either uploaded or downloaded some music illegally. However, I do not own the track in question (they can either take my PC for analysis if they like). My problem is that firstly I do not like being accused of something I didn't do, secondly what will happen if the BPI does this again- will Virgin cut me off despite the claim being untrue and lastly, this is not a way to conduct customer relations especially with long time ones like me who even stayed with them through the Sky debacle. Any thoughts?

Do you have fixed or dynamic IP address? I would write and deny and ask for all evidence including dates, times, IP addresses and port numbers.
The evidence from the USA seems to be that these companies are out to intimidate everyone by picking on anyone without caring too much for the truth and they will put people to great expense to defend themselves. Sorry to hear of this happening here. After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
I don't know if it's fixed or dynamic. I had a quick scan through Google and it appears that Virgin and the BPI are allegedly working together. However, Virgin is not questioning the 'evidence' supplied by the BPI, which is incredible as they need to be sure they are not intimidating innocent customers such as myself.0

You need to get on top of these issues, if they are after you. Virgin as a brand is of course historically associated with the music industry, and will probably be buddies with the BPI, so I doubt that they will be the least interested in looking after your interests.I don't know if it's fixed or dynamic. ...After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union

they won't throw you off the internet - the theory behind these letters is that if you're aware you're being 'watched', then you won't download anything you shouldn't.0
