If you're going to take out a new contract, then you'll have to try and negotiate with them, as they'll most likely already have subsidised the cost of your current handset.
Blackberry is just another phone really... just with some nice software for email and a service to support it.The thanks button is here to the right. If you find a post saves you money, gives you useful information, or you agree with it, take a second to thank the poster!

Thanks Sid, When I spoke to them yesterday I was told to order the Blackberry and then see if it was possible to transfer the mobile number and if not returning the Blackberry . I have had this mobile number for at least 14 years. I expect to have to pay the remaining time on the mobile contract, this is not an issue, I have been told that we would have to return the mobile handset if the number can be transferred.

buying direct from the network stands you in a better position than going through a retailer for a cashback deal, say (that's just general advice, particularly with Vodafone where they'll often refuse to do any number ports or anything).
You should, worst case, be able to see out or cancel your current contract on existing number (charges may apply), port that number to another network's SIM, and then port back onto your new line. The thanks button is here to the right. Thanks Sid, BT have agreed to move the mobile number to the Blackberry and I will have a new number for the mobile until the contract can be cancelled in July. Thanks for your reply.

I spoke to Vodafone sales yesterday about an upgrade but found its not due until Jan'09. What they suggested I do was take out a new contract on the Storm and then cancel my existing contract when it finishes. I ask if I could then transfer my number from my old contract to the Storm contract and they said no you can't. He didn't say why but I am not lossing a number I have hade for about 20 years so I'll have to wait.
wait till Dec thats 12 days away ( all the good xmas deals launch ) call and ask for an upgrade then as your mobile is dying and not worth at this time of year sending for repair, get the Storm on a deal but dont sound desperate for it, say you are considering the HTC HD from Orange & a plan that really suits your needs which is Orange exclusive handset ( for UK launch ) like Voda Storm exclusive, fight fire with fire
which Voda plan are you on ? monthly cost ?SO... now England its the Scots turn to say dont leave the UK, stay in Europe with us in the UK, dont let the tories fool you like they did us with empty lies... You will be leaving the UK aswell as Europe0 -
Thanks for your reply Diamonds. The BT phone is £12.50 per month and calls in the office can be made from it at landline rates. It only becomes a mobile when away from the office.
