If you are only renting, why is there such a huge need to 'create' a credit history?0 -
not a good idea to lie on credit applications.
Wait for at leat 6 months and then apply again. Try a catalogue online - make an order for something very small and ask for it to be paid for through setting up an account.
Then (as long as they say yes) send the item back so you don't owe anything and you have a credit file started.

'How can my boyfriend get a credit rating? He has no credit history, and no job at the moment.'
See the 1st line of the post, you said he doesn't have a job.
It will be nearly impossible to get any decent credit card without a regular income.
The only avenue is rip off credit cards.0 -

Do they not do a credit check first though?0 -

We are seeing an increasing number of people on here with CIFAS fraud warnings on their credit record.
If there is any recent application anywhere in which it states that he is not working, he will end up with a fraud alert on his credit record, which could screw things up royally for him for the next 6 years.
He will really be pleased by that.
You need to tell him what you have done and both of you keep off trying to get any credit in his name for the enxt 6 months.
Then apply truthfully.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -

Depends on the landlord I guess, if you go through an agent, maybe... our last landlord didn't do any credit checks on us.
After readung your other threads, I would hazard a guess that if they do a credit check it could fail on the basis of you having bad credit history rather than your boyfriend having none!0 -
Yeah thats why we're trying to build his up, so it's just his name on it, not mineIWantToBeFree wrote: »Depends on the landlord I guess, if you go through an agent, maybe... our last landlord didn't do any credit checks on us.

Does he realise the consequences? No chance of credit, only a basic bank account? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
