warning if buying from the trainline.com

hi

last month i bought 2 train tickets from the trainline.com, no problems, but last week i notice that £10 had been taken from my bank account by a company called shopper discounts and rewards

apparently, unbeknown to me at the time, i had signed up for membership of their rewards program, and the £10 was the monthly fee

this came as a bit of a shock to me, but apparently i ticked a box saying that i wanted a discount, and that constituted a membership

so if your buying train tickets from the trainline be very careful what boxed you tick as you might get more than you expect
its only a bargain, if you need it or will use it.

It's always best to buy direct from the train company. For instance National Express do not add anything on to the ticket price, and will post the tickets to you by first-class post for free.

I don't use trainline anymore. Once they started charging for CC transactions, I got a Switch/Maestro card, then they started charging for delivery. They even charge you when you collect your tickets from a Fast ticket machine! I emailed them telling them how discusting it was and took my business elsewhere. I usually use First Great Western for my tickets and they don't charge at all.

I used to use them all the time but stopped for the same reason as you did. Absolutely disgraceful being charged for the privelege of picking the tickets up.

I use National Express East Coast website, even if I'm not booking on their trains as it's great. You only pay for the train tickets, no extra fees and it shows you the cheapest fares for each jounry, really good if buying advanced singles! I managed to get a £24 return jounrye for £9.20!
  • great, ive just bought from them yesterday, how can i find out if i subscribed to something by accident?

after checking ot it took me to a page saying £15 cashback but i noticed it was £10 per month so exited.

I always use either the train company direct or national rail. National Express give a bit extra discount so it's worth it. I bought some recently and had them sent to DD at uni so she could visit and noticed they are in a Trainline wallet. Don't know why, but I'm off to check my statements now!

I think there has been some discussion about this before - see here
  • Dear Forum Members,

We have come across this forum and would like the opportunity to answer your questions or address your concerns.

Why dont you ever actually answer the many concerns raised by people on here then???

You post this copy and paste BS all the time.
People want to know why you take credit/debit card details without clear consent?

Why you sign up people to your so called service without properly informing them that they are signing up?

Why do you not clearly state that there is a monthly fee for your "service?

Why do have literally 100s of unhappy customers caught out by your scam of a signup process??

Answer the above instead of posting a load of nonsense everytime. You know you have no answers as the above is all true of your company. You are no better that a burglar robbing someone's house if you ask me.
  • Checked their profile and to date all 14 posts are identical CnP BS just as the poster above has posted out.

Its hardly a worthwhile contribution to this site and verges on spamming. Any reason why they havn't had their membership suspended ?
