Is it worth buying extended warranty for PS3?

Hi
My PS3 year's warranty finished last August- In July it broke with a common complaint (got stuck with the flashing orange lights and would never start up) and Sony replaced it.
However a work colleague's has had the same thing happen a month out of warranty- his choice is to send it to Sony to repair for £199 or buy a brand new one for £250+ (?) (both of ours are the original 60gb ones which are no longer available).
Is it worth buying an extended warranty - or is it covered by the sale of goods act for 6 years?
I bought it from amazon
Thanks

Everything is covered by the Sale of Goods Act. Whether it's useful or not depends on the individual circumstances. Your work colleague would definitely have been entitled to have it repaired for free by the retailer he bought it off (just 13 months I presume is definitely less than "reasonable time" in SOGA by anyone's definition for a PS3). Unless the extended warranty covers accidental damage (but then how's that different from insurance, possible already covered by house insurance) I don't see any advantage to it at all. In fact the money they cost if you simply saved it would actually go to buying better hardware replacements anyway by the time you couldn't do anything with SOGA."She is quite the oddball. Did you notice how she didn't even get excited when she saw this original ZX-81?"

It is most definatly worth buying the extended warranty as in the long run it provides you with piece of mind of your purchase and ensures you don't have to pay hefty repair fee's such as the ones your currently faced with.
no claims discount also offer a helpful matter on such events and is definatly worth a look;

Oh, please. It's most definitely worth NOT buying it. Over your lifetime, you'll buy loads of electrical products. Instead of buying the warranties each time, put the money in an account to cover breakdowns of electrical goods. Once you've got enough in there, you can spend the money you would otherwise have spent on warranties.
Insurance should be there to cover catasrophic loss - your life, house, ability to work. All warranties are are a way to spread the cost of paying for repairs, and paying through the nose for the privelege. Avoid them.
And relax ..0 -
would you want to loose a (rarish?) 60gb ps3 that had the production chopped ages ago?malcolmcoles wrote: »Oh, please. It's most definitely worth NOT buying it. Surely though, if it's that rare and can't be fixed, no amount of insurance policy will be able to replace it with the same version ?0 -
