Many people put forward the argument that what you are paying for in the care home is Board and Lodging. (Because if it is solely nursing care you don't have to pay, allegedly). .

Not quite true. There are 3 levels of dependency upon care (basically how ill and infirm the person is). My dad is on the top level and consequently around 1 week out of 4 is paid for by the NHS or whoever it is that pays it. I guess that's around £500 towards the nursing home fees.

Why should you be forced to sell your house, which you have worked hard and paid for,to pay for a care home.
They don`t have to in Scotland!

People in Scotland do have to sell their homes to pay for care home fees, why wouldn't they. If people think that all care is free they are very wrong as all they get is £145 or £205 per week and are not entitled to Attendence Allowance or any other benefits which those south of the Border get. My relative was still paying over £2200 per month in 2005 so it would be a lot more now and if she had a home to sell it would have been long since sold!:mad:

She also doesn't get any Winter Fuel Allownace at all and has to give virtually all her pension to pay the home and is left with only a little pocket money.

People should check their facts first.

I can bear pain myself, he said softly, but I couldna bear yours. That would take more strength than I have -
