My OH works for the child benefit office , which is a different area than pensions. Or do child benefit claimants get WFA????, wouldn't surprise me.
Dont bother replying and posting any more abusive comments (oldernotwiser- you really are acidic, my mums savings pay for her care. How would you feel if you were ill & your family had to pay £500 pw for you in hospital. ?)
I'm not responding any more, you are welcome to sit with your laptops sending abusive messages, I've got a life to get on with

Noticed that oldernotwisers last post seems to have been removed. Looks like it wasn't only me that was offended by it.

My apologies, I misread where your OH works, But surely it would not be difficult for OH to get accurate info?

Sadly you'll miss my apology as you're getting on with life, ah well.

Actually I removed it myself, thank you. The shorter version, which was all I had time for came over rather sharper in tone than I'd intended. As for your comment about the family paying her fees, it rather goes against your original post which says that your mother pays for her fees herself! You seem to want to have it both ways!

Seems to me the OP wants to keep her mums savings rather than pay them to the care home.

Nothing wrong with that I guess - most would feel the same, but it's how it is.

You are caught up in the problem people have when they need care but have savings, or their own property. It's frustrating for many families but then the money is not the childrens; it is the parents, and therefore it makes sense that they have to contribute. It is not the children paying for it, as such!

To put it another way, would you like any benefit entitlement you could claim to be reduced because your mother has savings? No, of course not, as you would be the first to argue it is your mothers money and not yours!

As I see it, £200 is enough for someone living in a care home. I don't actually understand why they get it at all tbh.

Out of interest: If she were not paying any fees, would she be more, or less entitled? And would she have to pay it to the home?

That's pretty well what I said in the post I withdrew. I also think that the proceeds from mother's house have managed to become"the family's savings" that are being used to pay for care.

Well it is pretty mean of us to suggest she can't keep her mums money and let the state fund her care...
