Just received my MAC code from BT and at the same received a call from BT. They offered me a £5 reduction on option 2 to £15.99 but I said no. They said if I have opt 1 they would be able to do it for £7.49 for a 12 month contract. I also got the newer black home hub.
They offered me BT Vision for £30 inc install or free if I took a package. Said no as I have Sky HD ( only just started).
NB. I don't live in an area with the exchanged that has been LLU'd so can't get any of the 'cheap/free' BB

Hi your in the same boat as me then...I can't get anything free...I am thinking of going with tiscali...unlimited bb up to 8mbs unlimited calls to 01 02 03 and unlimited international calls but I have to pay £8.24 for the line rental so I'll get all this for £28.23 a month...+ half price for the 1st 3 months...on an 18 month contract + free wireless router..Just received my MAC code from BT and at the same received a call from BT. They offered me a £5 reduction on option 2 to £15.99 but I said no. They said if I have opt 1 they would be able to do it for £7.49 for a 12 month contract. I also got the newer black home hub.

its a saving of almost £500 for me...:D

well BT wouldn't give me a Mac code cos they gave me a good deal instead...I rang them 4 times mind...so this is what I got eventually...
BT broadband option 3
BT anytime for my calls
and free line rental...
for 12 months
also got the new n range home hub for free
for
£22.49 amonth...
lets just hope thats all it is...I have yet to see it but hope that is all I will be paying...
so as I wont know until they take out my DD on 18th december has anyone else who has got a retention actually paid what they quoted or are you paying more...
ice
I too am not in an LLU area so I cheated abit and told them that tiscali had offered me 6 months at £19.99 as a good will guesture and £28 for 6 months on a 12 month contract...costing me...£288 for the year for up to 8mbs BB unlimited all inclusive calls 24/7 and free line rental for 6 months...
cos they couldn't give me it free all the time...
so with bt it should be £270 for the year so lets just wait and see...shall we...
as I bet there is VAT on top of this which wouldn't be £22.49 a month then would it...
as you can see I don't trust BT one bit had my fingers burned by them some what in the past...

tried this ad got shot down in flames lol. just phoned up as earlier in the week i asked for a mac code and got offered 15.99 on opt 2 with new hub. ggot letter though saying i had only got a reduction for £3 making it 19.99??? called to see why and asked for option 1 which the guy said would still cost me 15.99 and its the best he could do....hello thats worse than what i was offered before!!! asked if i could have it for 7.49 as i knew someone who had been offered this and got told nope as you are in a non llu area. needless to say i asked for my mac code again, just hope they phone me back with a better offer than 19.99 as i cant get cheap broadband. The guy wasnt help full at all, probably waiting for his shift to finish so he could go out on the pop! will they call me back or will i be better phoning again next week and hope i speak to someone a bit more customer friendly?0

I was on BT Option 2 Broadband and Option 3 calls bill was usually £37 - £40 pcm plus mobile contract with Orange. I have to say that the BT BB service has been excellent so reluctant to switch and I am in a rural area so no fancy deals.
Recently I rang BT to stop the call package because Orange gave me unlimited calls to 01 and 02 and a Blackberry so I now use WiFi for the mobile (transforming poor reception to excellent).
The point of this ramble is that I rang BT to stop the phone call package and I also told the BT member of staff how awfully expensive the BB is compared to others. They gave me:- New home hub
- Discount on BB plus 'cash back' (??) on BB
- Total bill now £22 pcm for BB Option 2 and line rental
- Advised me to ring again for a better deal when I am out of contract in Feb 2009.
But it is nice to see BT responding to consumer pressure and lowering their prices.0 -
when I rang up I told myself that I wasn't going to be hassled into staying with them unless it was gonna be cheaper for me to do so, at the end of the day they don't want you to go, so you tell them that if you go with Tiscali for unlimited downloads, upto 8mbps BB, unlimited calls 24/7 plus free line rental, for £19.99 but cos you cannot get free line rental its discounted at £28 per month BUT as I gesture of good will they will let you have it at £19.99 for the 1st 6 months then £28 for the remaining 6 months on a 12 month contract...and if they can match that or give you it abit cheaper then you will stay with them BUT if not your off to Tiscali...you have to haggle with these people he will say let me have a word with my superviser then say no they can't do that so you then say then please give me my mac code then he'll say let me just have another word with my supervisor and see whats the best we can do...then he'llcome back with a better offer...its already on my account it saysbumblebeebaby wrote: »tried this ad got shot down in flames lol. just phoned up as earlier in the week i asked for a mac code and got offered 15.99 on opt 2 with new hub. ggot letter though saying i had only got a reduction for £3 making it 19.99??? called to see why and asked for option 1 which the guy said would still cost me 15.99 and its the best he could do....hello thats worse than what i was offered before!!! asked if i could have it for 7.49 as i knew someone who had been offered this and got told nope as you are in a non llu area. needless to say i asked for my mac code again, just hope they phone me back with a better offer than 19.99 as i cant get cheap broadband. then there's my BB I am on option 3 so I get the same as that but discounted again to £7.50 amonth works out at £22.95 per month. so they can do it, you have to just keep at them I rang them on the monday then again on the wednesday I then emailled them on the thursday and then I rang them again on the friday each time I got a different offer, so just keep at it, or better still tell them the porky I did about £19.99 for 6 months then £28 for 6 months I am telling you they will give you what you want, you just have to keep on it...ring on a friday like I did...
good luck.

BEWARE
you don't always get what you ask for...
just found out that I was downgraded to option 1 on the BB which is what I didn't want...so quite pi-ssed off with them...
where do I stand now...as I now have to up-grade to option 3
which is what I was on in the 1st place...I am now wanting to leave them.

just be careful with tiscail as they give you like you want up to 8 mb but the evening and weekends your speed will be down to next to nothingjust an update I got in touch with the CEO of Bt who in turn got back to me, they will not charge me for anything and I can go to Tisacali which is all set to happen on 14th December.

as when i was with them i had dial up speeds if i was likely but now im with sky i get 8mb on the line which is the same as i was on with tiscali as no llu here0 -
I didn't move to sky cos it was going to be the same as bt in price so I wouldn't actually be saving anything, the deal I have with Tiscali is a tenner cheaper than bt but with all calls thrown in, my friend has been on it for years and is very happy with it,kkpolobear wrote: »just be careful with tiscail as they give you like you want up to 8 mb but the evening and weekends your speed will be down to next to nothing

I do have something on my line from when I was on force9 plusnet which is Bt now but they wont take it off so I can only get upto 4.5mb at the moment but I think Tiscali might get to take this off, if not them then ofcom.
we will have to see, but I don't mind taking to ofcom about them and getting them to sort it out thats whats you should have done instead of changeing yet I only have a 12 months contract and no LLU in my area til 2012 although I am moving next year so maybe a different area a different exchange you never know.
but thanks anyway.
