Day trip to London - Park & Ride?

I am off for the day to London on Saturday with a gal pal for a good old dose of window shopping! We looked at train tickets but they were quite expensive so we have decided to drive the majority of the way and then park up and get a train / tube into the centre.

We are by the M1 in Northampton so that will be the route we take - does anyone have any ideas of a good place to park the car for the whole day (that doesn't cost the earth) that is not too far away from the centre, but far enough away that I won't be sat stressed in traffic for most of the day!!! :T

Any help is greatly appreciated!

we are in kettering, stanmore is so easy, only took us about an hour to get there, and there is loads of parking.
