Hi everyone, just a quick update (i havent disappeared)

Last weds we got crashed into on a roundabout and my car got written off :( they only offered me £200 for it which is useless. Went to car auction and picked up a little Peugeot 306 for £320 so £120 out of pocket. Dad has paid for it for me as claim isnt settled yet and i have to pay him back next week when i get paid - cant believe this has happened right before xmas. Luckily i got a 57 plate courtesy car to drive round in for now.

Going to get injury claim and me and OH have whiplash and me being 7 months pregnant - isnt good. Spent weds afternoon in A&E and we both had to take Thurs and Fri off as we were in agony :((

ANYWAY, should have more time to come on here next week when we are semi back to normal :) Hope i havent missed too much!

Hi Sarah hope you and bump are well now. Re you offer was £200 the Insurances 1st offer, they are famous for offering miserablely low 1st offers in the hope that you will just accept. Also if this was not your fault then it is the other parties insurance that has to do the paying out [hope that makes sense], so really dig your heels in [you know a bit like I bet bump is doing to you at the mo]. Did you have the legal representative bit with your car insurance, might be an idea to check. If not the CAB are excellent. Only a few years back had my car taken [it was found a few hours later, but the insurance said it was a write off] at first they offered me a low amount so dug my heels in and refused. To cut a long story short I eventually got quite a bit more. The insurance also wanted me to send my log book + MOT to them, I refused point blank. told them I would happily send them photocopies [which I did] but the originals were mine. Also refused to have the car moved from our local garage.

    Dear all

Thank you very much for each and every one of your kind and compassionate words, you cannot imagine how much these mean to me. This is really my family of sisters here (and occasional brothers too, I imagine!).

I am feeling a bit better, have contacted a company that can provide me with a couple of quotes with local central heating engineers and I hope to hear from them soon.

Initially when we had the house assessed for energy we were advised to change the boiler to a condensing one, the greener and much more expensive type that is (!!!) but we thought it would be greener to let the old one run its course and keep repairing it - just last year we spent the best part of £300 having a part changed, including labour.

But I am soooo fed up with this situation that I have now decided to go for a new one, it will save money in the long run and I shall have my lovely hot bath once in a while!

I am also going to push the boat out and have thermostats installed on all radiators so it is going to save me even more money (and makes me feel all nice and green inside hehe).

This unfortunately won't happen until after Christmas but it is something to look forward to in January!

Thank you all again for all your help!

    Love to all

    Caterina

Hi Catrina, so sorry to hear about your boiler. Before you get a new one next year, have a look to see if you are entitled to a WARM FRONT GRANT. They can help with central heating, as well as loft insulation, radiator reflectors, cavity wall and hot water tank jackets. I think you get a grant up to a certain amount. Its worth a try. Grumpy Grandad and I applied earler this year and are getting tank jackets [can't have cavity wall as our house is stone, or a new boiler as our open fire works the hot water/heating ] poss some loft insulation.

  • Playing catch-up with posts - only been missing a couple of days but so many to read! Congratulations to Wendybird - great news:j
Big hugs to all who need them :grouphug: Sorry to hear all the bad news.
Had a mini MSE meet up with Olliebeak on Thurs - she had a training course where I work, so we met for 1/2 hr lunch. First time we've met, was wondering beforehand - what if we've got nothing to say to each other, or we don't get on - she's luvvly and I could've happily spent the rest of the day chatting away - it was geat.:D
Got a shock in Mr T's earlier - usually buy cornish wafer crackers @ 58p - when I checked today, they were 96p !!!!!!! - needless to say they're still on the shelf - I know prices are going up, but that's ridiculous
When you get to the end of your rope, tie a knot and hang on

I would definatly back NannaC, I used to work for an insurance company (b4 they made me redundant!) and I used to listen to the calls the motor valuers used to make and they would ALWAYS come in low for first offer, you were hear them argue and then agree a higher figure with the claimant, get off the phone and say 'thats what I was going to pay them anyway!' My advice is NEVER take the first offer from an insurance company, refuse it and get them to come back with a better offer as invariably they do but if not then threaten to go to the ombudsmun and then see how quickly they turn around!!
