    Hi all

I went to run the bath and the warm water just trickled in, taking ages, never getting really hot, then I had to top up the bath

Is the water in the hot water cylinder hot at the top of the cylinder? If so it may not be your boiler at fault. I had a similar problem last year and found out it was something wrong with the hot tap, it had ceased up with age (I know the feeling).

I had felt the hot cylinder but because it is higher than usual (in a bungalow, so the top is raised higher than me, to give pressure) I was feeling the bottom of the tank, which never seems to get really warm. Problem was solved with the cheapest pair of replacement taps I could find locally and the skills of my handyman, worth his weight in gold.
  • i`m just back from helping out my dd and her dh so am catching up and can sense that we are all trying to keep cheerful to stay on top of a situation that is really not of our making. I feel that we are being swept along but making the best of it and sometimes we dip below the surface as happened to Caterina. Lots of hugs hugs hun :grouphug:

After reading about baths, I am flippin dying for a bath up to my chin but the poncy bath in our 3 year old house is one of those stupid iron ones that are almost as deep as I am short. Well I can get in but I have to get on my knees to get out so I have only had showers for 3 years

I dashed to mr T the other morning and the car park was like shot ice. I have clean forgotten how dangerous shopping can be. I had to feel my way across the car park and that makes me appreciate the convenience and safety of my storecupboard. I am definitely staying put on icy days this winter. tbh I think I am treading water now as all preps are done for any state of siege whether it is strikes, flu or christmas

You can come here for a hot bath anytime but it's quite a journey.
I think EVERYONE deserves to be able to have a decent bath whenever they want. It's a basic human need.

We have a very elderly boiler. I'm dreading it being unrepairable.
I had quotes for a new boiler a few years ago and they were terrifying so it's still waiting to be replaced.

I think we could get help from warmfront now as DH is disabled but we'd still have to top up the cost and the thought of the house being upside down sends shivers down my spine.....
The man who serviced it said he'd condemn our boiler any time we wanted!!

  • Has anyone done WEA (workers Educational Assoc) courses before? I've only just discovered them and they do all sorts of things - creative writing, signing, IT, etc. They are open to all adults and are very cheap (some free!) I'm enrolling for women's swimming lessons in Jan - 10 weeks FREE! Kills several birds with one stone - first NY resolution (get fit), learn to swim (NY resolution first made when 30yo - now 56!!) and very MS! Now I just need to pluck up courage to get on and learn to ride that bike (another resolution unfulfilled since 30yo!) Really want to get on and ditch my ancient car but the traffic in town is SO hectic it's quite scary.

  • Oh dear Caterina when I read of your bathtime woes I felt so unhappy. You are usually such a postive force around here and I thought, if she falls apart, I fall apart.

I'm so glad to see from your later post, that you are coming to terms with the problem and hope it will all be for the best in the end.

Catarina, <<hugs>> from me too. You are such a positive force for good here :T
Hope you get your boiler sorted pdq so you can enjoy a bath whenever you need one.

We all have our low moments, don't we. Having been a 'second-hand rose' for so long I recently had this great urge to run into town and spend money on new clothes (ie not charity shop, not ebay!) so I've decided that for Spring I will buy myself one new outfit (i.e trousers and top) and not feel guilty about it.

You know what? I think we're all darned good here, and being OS is about doing our best, not being perfect! ;)
... don't throw the string away. You always need string! :D

  • Hi everyone :santa2:

Sorry to hear about your boiler problems Caterina - If you decide to go for a replacement boiler or not, see if you can get on a priority response contract with British Gas, you pay £2 monthly 'membership fee', this entitles you to a £130 fixed price repair (or it did when my boiler went a few weeks ago - think they are currently doing a promotion for £99 fixed price repair) - this includes parts and labour, saved my bacon financially a few weeks back, without this I would have had to pay £400+ to get mine fixed

And no, I don't work for British Gas....:D
SMILE....they will wonder what you are up to...........;)
