Caterina - you always seem so bright and cheerful and are huge positive influence on the rest of us here. You're entitled to have a big DOWN day occasionally The grey weather & wretched economy with constant bad news doesn't help. I hope something comes along to brighten your day. Think we're all going to be tightening our belts for the bad times ahead so we'll have to make our own blessings wherever we can find them.

    Caterina,

You are so good at keeping your carbon footprint low, and encouraging all here to do the same, that I think you should definitely be entitled to a hot bath whenever you want it, and if that necessitates a new boiler....go for it!

    Dear all

Thank you very much for each and every one of your kind and compassionate words, you cannot imagine how much these mean to me. This is really my family of sisters here (and occasional brothers too, I imagine!).

I am feeling a bit better, have contacted a company that can provide me with a couple of quotes with local central heating engineers and I hope to hear from them soon.

Initially when we had the house assessed for energy we were advised to change the boiler to a condensing one, the greener and much more expensive type that is (!!!) but we thought it would be greener to let the old one run its course and keep repairing it - just last year we spent the best part of £300 having a part changed, including labour.

But I am soooo fed up with this situation that I have now decided to go for a new one, it will save money in the long run and I shall have my lovely hot bath once in a while!

I am also going to push the boat out and have thermostats installed on all radiators so it is going to save me even more money (and makes me feel all nice and green inside hehe).

This unfortunately won't happen until after Christmas but it is something to look forward to in January!

Thank you all again for all your help!

    Love to all

    Caterina

Oh Caterina - I am really so sorry to hear that you've had such a rotten time. Why oh why do these things always seem to strike just before Christmas etc. At least you will have your lovely new boiler to look forward to in January and I bet it will be so ultra efficient and green that you'll be so glad you've changed it. These things always have a way of working out for the best, even if it doesn't feel like it today. It's good to have a rant and get it out of your system -rest assured we all need to let off steam sometimes and tomorrow is another day and I hope yours will be much better than today.

  • Hi Caterina

Sorry to hear you're having a bad day. You are sooooo "green it puts me to shame! I am new to all of this and am frequently impressed with the lengths you go to, you deserve a long hot bath now and then, you should not feel bad, we all deserve a treat every now and then. Hope you get the boiler all sorted soon and it doesn't cost too much. xx
  • Oh Caterina,so sorry your'e having a rotten day.Sometimes a good cry does you good though.I know I had one myself the other day(still don't know why).Try to look on the bright side when you get a new energy efficient boiler you should'nt have any problems for a while and they usually cost less to run as well.
Don't beat yourself up about things. It all does'nt matter in the grand scheme of things.Give yourself a treat and spoil yourself and hopefully you'll feel much better tomorrow.
    Take care xxx.

You know people, you are so great!

Today I am going to spoil myself and DH - no cooking, but a nice Indian takeaway is in order (of course I boil my own brown basmati - bulk ordered - as I cannot NOT do a little saving!).

Thank you all for so many kind words!

    Good night

Caterina, I belong to the Mae West school of life. I am never good enough for long enough to get fedup OF it !
I dont have showers. Bits of me stick out and get cold !! I have a boiling hot bath upto my nose. Probly the coal I burn is killing the rain forest...

    Mardatha

You're a very naughty lady - but then you knew that;) :D Now what was that Mae West phrase - summat along the lines of "Its not the man in my life - but the life in my man" - well, it sounds like a Mae West-ism, even if it wasnt!

    Caterina

You are obviously trying harder than a lot to be "good" - but we're all allowed a bout of self-pity about it once in a while....:D before we see a bit of "role modelling" going on that encourages us back onto the "straight and narrow". I'm just thinking here of a couple (as in they are a couple) that I know who are playing a very useful/dedicated role in my community with all the good work they do environmentally-speaking. I went to a social thing they organised recently - and am duly trying to cook up potatoes right now as part of my dinner in the way he told me about. The comment was made by one person there to us all - words to the effect of "We come back to base at intervals and you two are like mother and father to us all". As I said to him afterwards "You dont have to take on that level of responsibility you know towards us - all of us here are a soul group - we came here with the same purpose". He saw my point - I got a quick hug back in response. So sometimes a little bit of "touching base" with whoever in your life is a role model to you in any aspect - and telling them that you appreciate them - and it helps.:D
