Looks like a water butt purchase is coming Mardatha's way...

I worked out what a watering can of water costs me the other day - and how many times I could fill one from my waterbutt. Guessing on a figure from that - I've covered the cost of that waterbutt many times over by now - that purchase was well worthwhile.

Personally - I would say to everyone with a garden "Get as many waterbutts as you can fit in - and make them the biggest ones possible".

...I'm still wondering whether it would be possible to just drink rainwater straight out of the skies (ie that hadnt come via my gutters and downpipes) or no - as I have the polluted air that comes with living in an urban area...
(mind you - after reading that article recently about the Belgians starting to dispose of bodies by using chemicals to "break them down" and then basically "flushing them down the drain" - I'd a sight rather take my chances with polluted rainwater......). Where's a "stick your fingers down your throat" smilie when one needs one?..

hiya everyone, always read this thread. We pay our water monthly so an use as much as we like, we are, however on our hose pipe ban at the minute! My five and nearly 3 year old are not enjoying the heat, even though we are no where near as hot as 'down south'.

Spent yesterday evening trawling the internet for some shopping codes, on line is getting more expensive, oH wages are the same so no extra cash coming in. Havent got a big supermarket close by and not driving usually means its cheaper to shop tesco online then netto for fruit, veg and offers. My brother did point out during a discussion yesterday over is adsa better than tesco and or cheaper that from october when DS2 starts pre school i can trawl the shops for cheaper things or get a save away ticket one day and visit asda and sainsbury for the offers.

Very sunny here, but breezy (thankfully!).

    Take care xx

I spent the first 40 years of my life in Norfolk & Suffolk, and there, in most places, you also pay water rates, which I used to think were fairly reasonable....and then I moved to Dorset.

It's not across the county, just certain parts, but where I live, we are on water metres. Family of four, and no matter how conservative we try to be with the water - and we do try - the bills are always outrageously high.

If I could be bothered to get off my sticky, sweaty 'down south' backside, I'd tell you how outrageous, but I can't, it's too hot (sorry madartha :D ) but it is a lot!

Mine is £467.72 for this year, water and sewage charge combined. That's almost £10 a week, so I'm not gonna feel guilty about using it.

The water charges in Scotland are incorporated into our Council Tax bills so we can pretend that it's free!

    I've been Money Tipped!
I had another baby related brainwave circa 3am this morning (yes, it hurt)

Going to get OH to convert DD's old computer desk to a changing table (she has a smaller one now) its big, big enough for a matt and some little rattan baskets to go on top and has drawers etc etc so just needs a bit of edging, it took a good half hour of me walking round the house mentally deciding where to put it to make room for a changing table before the penny dropped...
