I can tell you that Mr.S's basic flour has gone up by 4p in the last 6 week's since I last got some, but they did have a lot of it in, I'm more shocked at the price of Sunflower oil, gone up by about 50p for the 3ltr,can't have the cheap oil as it is rapeseed and that is a triger for my Asthma,so have to stick to sunflower or corn oil and both are expensive.

Hi, I've have been catching up with the thread and I agree that the prices of food are going including the value/basic items. I go to Morrisons and they too are putting up their prices including the value brand. 5p doesnt sound much, but that amount at least on everything in the trolley will soon mount up. I think I mentioned this before, but if the cuts do cause everything to increase in price, what happens if you cant afford the value items!

That is when you carefully lock your doors. I think when people get desperate and can't afford stuff they will start to steal. (not all people obviously). Some will quietly starve.

Talking of price rises, DH was getting the small bags of coal for just under a fiver early last winter. Bought a couple today - just under £7. This is for the little bags not the big ones.

Our coalman said coal was going to "go up with a jump" sometime soon . We currently spend £60 a fortnight on coal. :(

That is an awful lot of money. Do you even it out through the year or are you using that now?

Thanks for the nudge. I'll try to scrape some more cash to get some more in before it goes up again.

You can't win, can you, whatever you are using.

Well, we have a big stove on 24/7 all year round Jamanda. It heats the radiators & the water, and can be used as an open fire in powercuts as well. If we let it go out, we have to use the immersion - and then a huge amount of coal to start it up again. Is easier just to leave it on very low. I dry the washing in front of it overnight, it gives constant boiling hot water, and its the one thing I can't/won't cut back on.

Well if your house is that warm, we may have to bribe our way in for the winter. I wonder how many sweeties it would take.....
