Just in case anyone is interested, here are my past 21 and future 7 days.
You'll see, Broccoli, Cauli, Peas & Sweetcorn as our main veg as we're not over keen on Carrots/Green Beans/Parsnips/Turnips/Cabbage although a lot of these recipes contain Carrot and of course various mixed Beans, Lentils, Leeks, Red & White Onions and Salad (Lettuce/Tomato/Cucumber/Grated Carrot & Cabbage/Peppers/Olives/Sun Dried Tomato and so on) It's not by any means perfect, but it's reasonable I think, and it's really just to give an example in case anyone fancies having a crack at a monthly menu plan

Ginny, I will never forget The Great Sweetie Shortage.. never!
But I really think we all need to move up a notch & work out plans for staying ahead of things. feel like they we going downhill so fast it's more like falling off a cliff. Between the crisis in the money markets, the crisis of BP, the crisis of the country's debt , the crisis of vanishing Basics/Value range foods ...Too many crissississs!0 -
the crisis of vanishing Basics/Value range foods ..
Is everyone noticing this across the country? and if so, do you think it's happening in the all 3 major supermarkets, i.e. Te$cos, $ainsburys and A$da?Aug11 £193.29/£240

I think we should all go and check our local ones. I have seen quite a few posting in here so it does seem to be going on.0

Even Aldi are getting in on the act with rising prices - blended butter has shot up fron 85p to 95p in the last week - over 10% price increase
Bread is dearer than the on offer stuff at Sainbergers.
Sainburgers basics are up in price too - the few things that are still on the shelves are all only a few pence cheaper than the standard items.
I live in a little village so I tend to do one big shop a week to last the week - the price hike has been very noticeable at the checkouts today
Best get my sewing kit out and get ready to do a bit more patching!:heartpuls The best things in life aren't things :heartpuls

That's not a bad idea actuallyGive us all an idea if it's across the board, or just certain areas.

I have a feeling it may be imported butter? Damn sure the British farmers ain't getting any benefit from rising prices.
I agree wholeheartedly Mardatha we need to prepare for a siege, batten down the hatches etc. Im not scaremongering cos my kids are backing me - I did think i was over reacting but the kids can usually put me right. I am seriously stocking up an emergency box, including candles, wind up radio and even cat food. The basics in my local Mr T's are disappearing very quickly and whats left is going up in price. The basics toothpaste, soap and dish washer tabs went this week. The laundry liquid was 76p and now is 94p. All we do is if we go to the shops we spend a pound on our rations as we call them.
So come on MSE'ers lats get ahead before these crisis'sss come to a head.
I am going to e mail MrT and Sainsb'ys tonight and nip in for nappys for Dgs tomorrow and do a bit of homework and post it on here.Clearing the junk to travel light

Thanks ginnyknitI for one would be interested in what you find out. I think this could be quite an interesting (or should that be frightening) experiment.
I'm without a car at the moment, so get my main shop from A$da delivered....the SP Crisps, Peanuts, Lemonade, Kidney Beans, Loo Rolls, Flour and Oats that I've ordered for delivery next week are showing as being available, and I ordered and received SP Flour, Golden Syrup, Honey, Raisins & Sultanas a fortnight ago, so I'm not sure if it's happening in my local branch, but the prices are increasing, especially basics like tinned tomatoes, kidney beans and the like.....I can't believe how much tinned tomatoes have shot up! And Heinz Baked Beans!!
I pop into Te$co to get my fresh fruit and veg in person as it's only a 15 minute walk from me, and it does seem to me that they have less 'Value' products that they used to.
I have to go in on Monday, so I'll check to see if they have Value Toothpaste, Soap and Dishwasher Tablets in my branch and then and report back alsoAug11 £193.29/£240

I'll really be up the creek without a paddle if A$da remove their smart-price soya milk. I've recently had an e-mail with a 'free delivery' voucher so I've just been online and ordered 24 cartons of the stuff, which is the maximum they let you order. That and loads of other stuff to stock up with. As long as I can have a cup of tea, I can cope with any crisis!
Ho hum - I think tomorrow will be spent sorting out the cupboards so that I can find space for all the stocking-up-in-advance stuff I'm starting to do .....
Totally of topic but - I'm just watching my dog have a dream; his paws and ears are twitching and he's woofling in his sleep ... the one thing I'm determined not to cut down on is the insurance I have for my dogs, especially as they are both OAPs now.Aspire not to have more but to be more.
