Are we listing our local Basics prices /availability on this thread - or are we starting a new thread? I will be very interested in this one as Basics form a large part of my shopping!

Good idea charlies-aunt - a new thread about this sounds good! I have my grocery receipt at the ready to report on my shop!

Hate all these prices going up - it's bad enough trying to manage now - getting £65.45 week from JSA/ESA since job finished end Dec 09.
After all bills paid that leaves me with grand total of £26.49 per week for everything (not just for food, that includes busfares/clothes /shoes etc.) Being as frugal as I can - use library for books, charity shop as much as I can, only buying bogofs etc when out shopping. Most of the time I treat it like a game to see how little I can spend, but sometimes it does get you down.

I draw whole months money out of bank at begining of the month and I have to manage on it - thats £3.78 per day, so have been having a lot of no spend days.. Can walk to local shops altho' nearest is Mr T - only for bread/soya milk/yellow stickered bargains. Next nearest is Nett0. Mr A/Aldee about 45 min walk away - no problem walking there, altho walking back limits what I can carry. Suprised meself on how little I can actually manage on, now not working and have the time, can home cook, never go to same shop twice, so have good idea of prices etc. Really scared at what this upcoming budget will bring though.

Been to Mr T's and had a quick look around, my arthiritis is very bad today so couldn't linger. All the cheap stuff I buy seems to have gone up by a minimum of 2p and as much as 12p in some cases. Got the cheap stockcubes as the chicken and veg ones are 10p at the mo. Thought if we haven't got much meat at least I can add some flavour. Went looking for nuts and stuff but too expensive as are the lentils etc. Will have a run to a wholefoods shop next week and stock up there as its marginally cheaper than the supermarkets and is a lovely place to shop.

Everyone seems to be spending vast amounts on beer and nibbles for the world cup - the government must be chuckling away at having something to distract the masses from the crisis looming - bit like the poll tax years only even more pointless. I cannot understand why a football match means you need a new Tv??? Mines old and boxy but I only look at the picture :rotfl:

I know the feeling pagangirl. Each time you find a way to manage, the goalposts are moved :(

Further to whether or not Value Toothpaste, Soap and Dishwasher Tablets are still available in my local Te$co:
    Value Toothpaste - yes - 17p
Value Soap - yes - 13p (although there were none on the shelf)
Value Dishwahser Tablets - no, and no space on shelf for any

I also think a new thread would be a good idea Jo/charlies-aunt. As I said earlier, I think it would be an interesting experiment, and would give us all an idea as to whether Basics/Value/SP goods are being phased out :) .........what would we call the thread?

Aww Shucks.....that makes me sound a right bore! lol And calling me sensible and adult is very hurtful indeed :rotfl:

Growing Old Disgracefully has always been my motto :D I was just trying to think of a title that would attract people with the same concerns as us....but Supermarket Snitch would probably pull more views anyway ;)
