I never buy caster sugar now. If I want it, I put appropriate amount in liquidiser/magic bullet, and whiz it up - instant caster sugar. You can do it with demarara as well. Can't get it quite fine enough for icing sugar though.

now I'm really mad cos I went to get some eggs and the lovely free range ones I bought last week @ £1.35 for 6 had all gone but sitting in their place were 'organic free range eggs' @£1.75 for 6!!!! :eek:

Went to the other shop in the village and they had the very same ones at the same price or the dreaded battery hen eggs for 69p :mad:
No wonder people have to buy eggs from battery hens if it's all they can afford because free range are getting way too expensive and if free range and so called organic free range are going to continue to charge these kind of prices then sadly battery hen farms will continue to thrive :mad:
I wish I had the space to keep my own hens again, I've done without eggs for weeks because I couldn't get free range but now they've started getting them in the shop again I can't blinkin' well afford them!!!!

I'm not sure if this will be any help to you but MrS had 12 large free range woodland eggs on offer at the weekend -it may still be on for Pancake Day today. I think they were usually around £2.99 for 12 and they were selling them for £1.99 for 12 so about £1 saving. The medium size eggs were around £1.75 for 12 and were also on offer.

Off to do a bit of cooking myself now

hiya hon, thanks for the tip, we live very remote area though so no use to me but will be to other folk I'm sure. Apologies if previous post sounded a bit ranty but I just wonder how are we supposed to support local producers when that's what we're up against in these economic times

Have you tried your local butcher? We get our free range eggs from our butcher. They're 95p for 6.

no our butcher is very,very expensive so I don't even go in there anymore. I can usually get them cheaper from the villages round about us & usually cost between £1 -£1.20 for 6 but they've been very scarce since christmas and we didn't manage to get any round here for a month. £1.35 for 6 is my limit though I won't pay more than that, I'd do without first

carrie can't remember if you have any farm shops near you that might be any cheaper or are these ones farm shops?Terrible shock isn't it when things jump up like that and I agree...most annoying!!

furndire thanks for that I only buy caster sugar as its cheaper here for some reason than granulated think our MrT is having a clearout..I can't get icing sugar 'smooth' enough here either DS3 spots anything 'different' a mile off,his tastebuds are so sensetive.. he could make a fortune as a food taster..if he'd actually eat anything other than strawberries and bread :rolleyes:
