Snowy down here in dorset - I work in Winchester (long way) so not risking it today. I live on a hill and cars have been crashing and skidding outside my window all morning....eek! Have had a nice chat with the neighbours though!

I know what you mean. They always make mountains out of molehills.
I have never read a newspaper for years because of it.I made a conscious decision not to do so as they always made me feel fed up.I won't even listen to the news unless I can't avoid it.
The result is I'm a much happier person.
I just don't need to know all the stuff they keep reporting.0 -
Well its not money that's the problem is it, it's people's greed for it. I dare say himan nature hasnt changed in 2000 years!0

same here.. no newspapers, don't listen to the news... what I do "hear" about the news is from mse and the odd headline I see on my homepage...
it is depressing and worrying to have all the bad news constantly being told.. we never hear the good news. I figure that I will hear about it if it is important!0 -

I managed to get Nella Last's War book from the library - really enjoyed it and it was a good insight to how people coped. I also found myself nodding at certain things as they were things I do!
Just looking at the pennypinchers book now - lot seems to be commonsense (but it that cause I am in the "mindset"?) but the one sentence that really sticks in my mind so far and that I am going to have as a mantra is
"being thrifty is not about being mean, it is not about hoarding wealth, it is about living better"0 -

I'm glad to hear of someone in the same mind as me.
People always ask if I'm on something as I'm always so calm and upbeat.I put it down to not allowing myself to be so involved in the rat race and turning myself off to what's going on outside.Very peaceful if you can do it.
My hubby says I live in my own little la-la land.
Works for me I can tell you.0 -
another here who doesn't read/listen to the news. DH could never understand how I could bare to be 'so out of touch with everything' - and I've had looks of shock from friends and work colleagues when they realise I avoid it completely...... but why spend time find out about things that are likely to make my sad/depressed, when there's enough of that going on in my immediate friends and family circleCheryl0

Another who doesn't get caught up in the news either!
I find it toooo depressing!
I scan over the local paper as MIL sends them on to us...but otherwise I don't bother really....if DH is watching the news I tend to busy myself with something else
and Mrs.Tittlemouse....I have my own little 'la-la land' as well :rotfl:and I like it that wayA family that eats together, stays together

Thank goodness for my store cupboard. The milkman didn't make it to ours last night and we're down to our last half a pint, but I DO have dried milk so we can still have tea and coffee, yay!
Hubby's at home today because we live on a windy, hilly country lane which is currently a sheet of ice. Went out to have a look this morning and a 4x4 was skidding along the lane, followed by a tractor with a trailer. Well, I say followed, it wasn't until the men had got some grit on the road that it was able to slowly skiddily make it's way to the brow of the bridge. There were also tracks on the bridge over the motorway where someone had skidded across and up onto the pavement and into the fencing.0
