Just reading about price hikes - just an observation - when do people get paid - end of the month - when do prices rise????????? and do they drop in the middle of the month. Do supermarkets hike prices when they know that the majority of people have money, to drop them mid-month when money is getting tight. Just as they do on Bank Holidays, etc?? Salad stuff particularly has always rocketed at holiday times.
When is un -useful stuff cheaper? - when people have money to spend - just drop it in the basket!!
What do others think, or is it me being ultra cynical ????0 -

Thanks mummysaver -I still have one full bag of flour left -so it might be worth a try.Sealed Pot Challenge 7 Member 022 :staradmin:staradmin:staradmin

i love a good rake around Lidl once a week and have noticed the prices creeping up there. Can still get more for £20 than I could ever get in Mr T or Mr S's shops.
Although some stuff is a little questionable so it can be trial and error:eek:
I have started a 'rainy day fund' of my own now too. I still have my own account and a joint saving account but thought it was time i squirreled some money away if my job gets whisked away from me or any other disaster happensSpreading the gospel that is Martin Lewis to the future generation....I'm a Home Economics Teacher and being thrifty is the way!:A0 -

I have always used MrA for bread flour as I have never had good results with Mr Ts, I would def take it back, Asda still have their guarantee on own brand products so it may work out better for you.0 -
Eliza - you could take back the part used bag as well, after all, you wouldn't know it didn't work if you hadn't used it would you?!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000

Has anybody seen Tesco own brand peanut butter on the shelves recently? Our local one hasn't had any since before christmas. They've only got sunpat or organc, both of which are more expensive.0

I've found it difficult to buy Mr T value anything in our nearest store, they used to sell value washing up liqiud at 14p which was great but its gone, and its the same across the board with all the value range.0 -
It's not even the value one, just their own version. Apart from it being cheaper than the branded ones, I prefered the texture as it was softer and easier to spread than the sunpat.0

I just made 4 pillowcases and 2 single duvet covers so am feeling pretty satisfied today. I cut the duvets out 3 weeks ago and ever since, have had a feeling in the pit of my stomach re tackling them but hey they were easy and turned out very nicely. The pillowcases only took a couple of hours. I have rolls of qualty, plain cotton for shirting, they only cost about £2 a metre plus postage and I managed to use one whole roll in one colour and backed the duvet covers in an off white. So that is 1 down and about 15 to go. This is the link for the free instructions and they are very easy to follow

In the middle of all that I minced some topside of beef that I had frozen, off a joint that I bought for half price at new year. Made lovely burgers. I admit that I was like a whirling dervish this morning but am relaxed now, sitting in a recliner with laptop on knee.
I haven`t read the posts yet but saw a glimpse of sardines, coincidence, as that is what we are having tonight
I had a really great result re tesco. Two nice e mails from head office to assure me that they have spoken to the store manager, who has been taken to task.
The only bad thing hanging over us now is the fact that our fixed rate bonds in icesave matured on nov 18th and we haven`t had our money yet. My dh doesn`t have a pension yet as we are trying to grow his sipp over the next 3 years. Things are tight
Noisy neighbour appears to be trying to be quiet and is much appreciated, trouble is my dh can`t even stand a clock ticking in the bedroom and swears he could hear music. I am going to look out for a white noise thingie so he doesn`t get obsessed with very low grade sound. I must be deafer because I heard nothing and am very grateful for a co-operative neighbour
Weather isn`t nice today. Very dull and drizzly so a good day for getting some jobs done in the house0 -
I been very busy today too, although I feel I have achieved nothing. My youngest (two) has stomach bug so have spent all day clearing up and washing. The house looks a right state even though I havent stopped all day!
At least dinner in SC and that is one thing I dont need to worry about.0
