I use it for veg! As there are only 2 of us I put 2 veg in a layer. I also cook the potatoes for mash in the bottom. At the weekend we had smoked cod loin, mash, broccoli and cauliflower all cooked on one ring in the steamer in about 20mins!0 -
Well the 39p fruit and veg offers have gone up to 49p, but still a good deal. I find that if I do all my shopping in there it doesn't work out much cheaper than the other supermarkets. I'm quite lucky Asda and Aldi are close to each other so I go to both in the same shopping trip.
I've not really shopped at Sainsburys so can't give you a comparison - sorry xlightbulb moment Jan 07 - DFW 417!debtwas£32k

Hi
Aldi have increased the price of their tinned dog food from 32p tin to 39p. I wont be bothering to make the special journey to get it anymore. I will buy Mr S or Mr T own brand or see whats on offer. Mr S have Ped Chum on offer at the mo and it works out at 37.5p tin and the store is a mile and a half from my house.

I've used a steamer for veg since 1987 (when I got my first house - my parents like their veg all mushy so couldn't use one until then!). Initially I had one that sat on top of a pan, but got a 'proper' one when I got married in 1992. I now own 2 (plus an electric one), and when I cooked Christmas Dinner for 8 of us a few years back actually had them all on the go at the same time  I've used it for H0lland's S&K puds too, but nothing else yet.
Have to admit I don't tend to cook my potatoes in it, as I find they need longer unless they're chopped for mashing -- and if I'm mashing that means the rest of the veg loses the heat source while I'm sorting the spuds, and then DS complains they're cold !!!!
"Whoopsie hunting" is something else my GDs enjoy. They know the three spots to check in my local C00p, and the three in my local S'flds. If we go anywhere else I get asked where they are as soon as we go in :rolleyes2 They've already learned there are lots of things I won't buy them off the "normal" shelves, but if they're Whoopsied then (depending by how much) I mightCheryl0 -

Re all the ladies having probs with leakage, with me its the other end. I think my brain leaks.0 -
Lots of Old Stylers are reporting price increases. I'll add this to the Tougher thread, where there's more discussion of this.

Kidcat - my dd1 is the same with her friends, think that's why they want to come shopping with us! A couple of them work for their parents for a few hours at weekends and get paid £50 per week (dd told me categorically that I wasn't allowed to ask if they had any more jobs lol), anyway dd1 gets £20 pm pocket money and only then if she's done chores and been helpful, so her friends are amazed at how she can get as much for her £20 as they can for their £200!
Another of dd1's fave things is Boots bargain hunting! Amazing how those points mount up, and it's amazing the stuff that they can often pay you to take away! She has piles of make up and beauty stuff simply by asking for samples - though some of it is down to her pinching my free gifts as well! Apparently we are taking her chums into Debenhams and Boots to experience the joy of free makeovers and makeup and lotions and potions samples!
I love the fact that she is beginning to have a grasp on what is sensible to spend you money on, and where you can economise.
NannaC - I've made the soup, I have no willpower! It is fabulous, going to let the kids try the rest of it, think they'll love it!
Mardartha - I don't know about leaking brains, but I often feel that the remaining cells in mine are getting a bit lonely in there!
And Leaking Ladies, get doing your Kegel exercises now! Squeeze as you read lol! You'll be trampolining with no trouble before long!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
Ooh! Another thread has been merged!
If any of you want to have a read back on this thread, you'll soon see that the price increases are common throughout all the shops!
My bugbear is flour at the mo! Mr T increased it from 48p to 79p, then it went back to 48p, now it's at 64p - well it was last night, who knows about today! Worse than that it had a sign on saying that Sainsbugs were 79p, hmm, nothing about their price going up by 16p then!GC Oct £387.69/£400, GC Nov £312.58/£400, GC Dec £111.87/£4000 -
I've noticed that lots of things increased in price in Asda and then lo and behold, they've all been "rolled back" to what they were before and then they have a great marketing campaign saying how much they are reducing everything by! :rolleyes:0

Bread flour was 48p in my 'local' Mr A last night. Had to take my GDs home and put them to bed (DD had a staff meeting to attend after work) -- so, as she lives a lot closer to the Mr A than I do, I nipped over after she got home as I wanted a couple of bits (and needed to fill the fuel tank) anyway. Didn't really need bread flour ATM, but remembered the chat about prices on here -- so I picked up a couple while I had the money on meCheryl0
