I need a new washing machine, and I hear that there are some online websites that offer good price/quality. I have already checked out argos and comet

  • I always go into the local shops and look at them to decide which brands/models I like. Then get home and type the brand & model into google, it'll come up with places that sell them and usually also the price comparison websites to find the best deal. Check p&p!

Don't forget cashback via quidco or other!!

Also for washer brand ideas try http://www.washerhelp.co.uk/buying-washing-machines.html for good info
  • I can personally recommend:

Comet Clearance Auctions particularly if you are a specific model in mind.

Also, worth checking out prices for models on pricerunner. I bought my new fridge freezer from Appliances online after checking the price on pricerunner. It was £699 in Currys and £899 in John Lewis - I got it for £550 inc delivery!

I can say I recommend both from experience having had two fridges freezers and a washing machine go kaput in the last three months!!!

As Jimbo says, its worth checking quidco or other cashback sites and purchasing through them, however, I found that the big bargain suppliers weren't members of these cashback schemes in my case.

  • I've always looked at Comet clearance, are the items really as described? Fancy some stuff from there for my kitchen, e.g. oven with dent/scratch on the side - not going to see that!!

apparently john lewis own brand is good because they give a free 3 yr warranty. empiredirect sometimes have some good deals
  • I can recommend Domestics Direct. They sell online via Ebay but also have a big outlet in Southport.

They sell new and "Graded" stock, but having spent £750 on a big range cooker from them a year ago (which should have cost over £1000) I would not be able to tell that it is not brand new. Clearly your results may vary.

Nonetheless, they are very helpful if you phone them and will keep a look out for particular makes/models if you need them.

I do like John Lewis because I like their service and bought one of their side by side fridge freezers about two months ago for the utility room to replace one of my fridge freezers that died. But even with the free extended cover, a £349 price hike for the AEG fridge freezer I purchased was a too much of a difference on this occasion.

They are offering free 2 and 3 year warranties on a lot of non-JL brands too at the moment and of course, give free delivery. Pigsback also give points for purchases made via them too.

You can also find the best internet price, print off details, and take to your local shop and ask if they can match the price. I've successfully done this when I wanted to buy a new washing machine and tumble dryer. Not sure if it will work everywhere though but we live in a small town/fairly rural area and the shop manager is keen to get the locals' business.
  • i would recommend https://www.rdo.co.uk for sheer slelection... they will do a deal for multiple items too... ummm they have a live chat service on their website as well if that helps.
  • OP here, Just wanted to thank all you moneysavers for your prompt replies. So many great tips, I'm gonna have to do a screen shot for future reference.
