Beware! Orange 'free broadband' customers

Rang Orange last week about a mobile phone issue, and while the guy was sorting that out, he mentioned that our broadband speed was very slow. We took advantage of free broadband with Orange (based on the amount we spend on mobiles with them) a couple of years ago, and even though the offer is no longer running for new customers, they've continued it for those who took it up then...

Anyway, this bloke mentions our speed is slow, and asks if I want him to switch it to the higher speed. When I ask, he explains that this won't change anything else, literally all it will do is speed up the broadband. Fine, I say, and that's that.

Then today I get an email from Orange about my new 18 month broadband contract and the switching of our home phone calls to Orange!! One very peed off phone call later, and it turns out that although the guy did totally mis-sell a product to us (and this is the key bit) THEY CAN'T PUT US BACK ON THE SAME FREE BROADBAND PACKAGE AS BEFORE BECAUSE IT NO LONGER EXISTS. So even though they admit it was all their fault and their mistake, we've lost our deal.

I wanted to let people know, as it strikes me this might be a deliberate scam to wipe out the remaining free broadband customers Orange were stuck with! So beware!
