Nokia battery recharge - how long and how often??

I have a Nokia 3220 mobile,I don't use it much but I do leave it on standby in case any one can't get through to me on my land line (I just bought it for emergencies), I mainly use it for texts. It was purchased about six months ago. I would just like to know how often other people charge their phones? and when they do, how long they charge them for. My book says to charge it for about 1 3/4 hours so that is what I do, on the other hand my sister says she leaves her on charge overnight! the reception where I live is not good and I notice that the mobile is forever coming on and off looking for a signal, so maybe that is why the battery gets used up, at the moment I am charging it every three days! it just sounds a lot to me. please help!

you cant over charge it as it will stop charging when fully charged so its fine to leave it on all night (or all week if you want)
if there is a poor signal or youve got bluetooth turned on you will drain battery quicker

every three days where there is not much signal sounds about right. The phone will use lots of power looking for a signal, as it will be continually searching for one
