conditioner not going into washing machine

I have a Bosch washing machine which works perfectly except that the conditioner doesn't go into the machine for the final rinse - it just stays in the drawer.

I've tried cleaning the drawer but it must be 'bunged up' further up in the machine. I've also tried putting washing soda where the washing powder goes in the drawer but that gets washed into the machine before the rinse cycle. If I put washing soda in the conditioner part of the drawer it stays there.

Any ideas please??

Does your compartment for the draw have a cover? If so, have you also cleaned that, paying particular attention to the "tube" bit that comes down over the pin in the draw. It is always this being bunged up that gives me the symptoms you now have.

I have found that a drop of vinegar in with the conditioner prevents this happening (or certainly makes it longer between cleanings, I haven't had to do mine for ages now).

Do a " Service wash" wash at 90 degrees with no liquid / conditioner and no cloths just an empty machine this will de gunk it
If it doesnt pay rent sell it.

It doesn't degunk the conditioner bit. For me the problem remains until I clean out the tube into the compartment.
  • Hiya, i got told (by an engineer who came to fix my washing mashine) it may or may not work - hopefully it will.......

    1. Take the drawer out (where you put the conditioner)
    2. Above the drawer should be a small hole where the water comes out (this is where the pressure of the water that comes out, takes the conditioner into the washing machine)
    3. Clean the hole with cotton bud or sharp point of a needle as will be really gunky.
    4. Clean all holes while your there.

    Or

Try putting washing machine on (with plenty of towels at the ready ) to see if this is the problem before cleaning with cotton buds and after cleaning if you wanted to rule out different problems.

Hope this helps you as it did me and adds another cleaning job to my list in the kitchean.

I had a similar problem with a different make of machine.
I only looked into the problem after the motor packed up.
When I got the covers of the machine to replace the motor, I noticed there was a broken lever on the side of the water compartment. The lever was meant to move across to divert water to the softener compartment.

I'm not sure if Bosch have the same thing, but its worth looking into.

  • Mine does this too, but I've given up on it after DH has tried all he can to get it working. It either takes conditioner with the main wash, or not at all.
So, I've resorted to putting it through a full wash cycle without conditioner, then putting conditioner in the main detergent compartment and putting the machine on again at the conditioner stage.

Bit more expensive, but my clothes are getting thoroughly rinsed, lol!!

  • I have found that concentrated fabric conditioner does not tend to go down, but the regular stuff does, or water down your concentrated for the same effect. My m/c is a Bosch too.

Had this problem with my Hotpoint , tried most of the things suggested but the thing that fixed it was to clean out the holes where the water comes down into the softener compartment.... take out the drawer and you can see several tiny holes in the top of the compartment , I had a long thin darning needle which I very gingerly cleaned out the holes putting the needle in as far as possible without forcing it.. a piece of thin wire would probabely work too... it has worked fine now for several months... Good Luck there is nothing more annoying...

Do you know I had a problem like this with a machine yrs ago, the machine would not take washing powder for the wash. So I used tablets in the drum. Maybe you could switch to a 2 in one powder?
