Private Parking Ticket

My bf parked at a university car park today where he shouldn't have been.

Now I am all for penalising idiots who park incorrectly but we can't afford £50 on this ticket... It was a motorbike I don't know if that makes any difference. As it's a private parking fine and not a council issued one is there anything we can do? Had a quick glance at martin's section on it but can't see anything with reference to public/private sector.

So, he 'thought' it would be OK to park there seeing as it was a motorbike. NO EXCUSE and believe me he has had an earful off me already (ESPECIALLY as there were legitimate motorbike bays about 200 yards away, AAAAAH!!!) but just before xmas I would rather not have this extra expense.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

EDIT: well I found the section on Private Parking Tickets http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/reclaim/reclaim-private-parking-tickets

:( !! Even more reason why I need help from you lovely users!

If it's a civil offence, then you can ignore it.

Check out the advice at pepipoo, which is devoted to avoiding paying for motoring offences.

And by civil offense do you mean 'parked in the wrong place, no ticket so gave a fine'? Again, not issued by council issued by the university.

Oh and also on the back of the ticket it says all the different offenses they can issue a ticket for and their respective fines... there are some that are £25 and some are £50.... They have done him for a £50 offence but a £25 offence is 'failing to display a valid permit' which he is technically guilty of so could we at least go for a reduction in the fine?

no, just ignore everything, it is unenforceable. Ignore everything.

Have only had chance to glance at it as OH is hogging the laptop but from what I can see they can take us to county court on it?

    'Infringement' actually

His one is 'Failure to conform to traffic signs and notices' at £50 but for £25 there's 'Failure to display a valid car parking permit' which is also true!!

Oh it also states that if he doesn't pay the fine then the university can't award his degree!!! I only just noticed that now..... 'Students cannot be awarded a degree or other qualification while they are in breach of this Ordinance'!! So if we just ignore it he could find himself unable to graduate in June 2010.....

What is the name of the company? Or is it the Uni themselves who have issued the invoice?

What excellent advice to give a University Student who has been fined at University. Way to go to ensure they get kicked off their course or their certificates withheld.

    Any other pearls of wisdom?
